I'm puzzled. The last five of my 308's VIN are 20920. Now, I recently read that 308's always had odd last numbers and not even. Any thoughts??

And no, I cannot seem to find any Fiero markings anywhere, either! :D

odd numbers used to be for street cars only, but they started given even also around 75000, i think that was somewhere in the late 70ths

Your VIN or s/n is stamped in the engine bay and has a plate on your steering column. Do those two places show the same number? Do they also look original or altered? An even numbered car would indicate it has some race history, but except the Michelotti built rally cars, I am not aware of factory delivered 308 race versions!

Maybe it should read 20921 or 20929?

Forgot to mention that the 75000 range was later than the 70ties. It was around 1987, at the time the Testarossa, 328 and F40 were the cars.

Niels,

The numbers do match and are unaltered or at least appear to be so...What do you think? Thanks alot.

Can you post a picture of both? Maybe the factory rebuilt a old (crashed) car and gave it a new s/n (happened before) or it is just one of those Ferrari 'irregularities' (plenty of those exist!)

I don't thank there were any so call race versions F106 built but there were some cars built in the mid-70's that had P-6 cams installed at the factory and 300HP. Of the 3 cars I have seen none had a muffler cover instslled or tab install on the body to mount it to. I all so heard that while they were working on the F-40 there was a twin-turbo 760HP 308 engine they missplaced, it may be install in one of the F-40.

Niels,

I'll post a photo as soon as I can get my regular film digitized; still kicking myself for having my digital camera moved with my household goods...

No, the goods are still somewhere in between Hawaii and North Carolina. I won't see it until November...

I still think I can have normal photos put on a 3"x5" disk??

Dane,

If you have the pics developed with Kodak, there is an option on the envelope to also receive a CD ROM with your photos on it. I have done this on several occasions, though i'm not sure what the cost was (didn't pay attention). BTW, beautiful BLUE 308 you've got there!

Hey, welcome to the site! I'll think you'll find there's some good information around here from some pretty nice folks. I actually have heard of digitizing regular film but did not know I could have it thrown on a CD-ROM. Also, thanks for the nice comment about my car. I do appreciate it. Not the fastest on earth, but it sure is an unbelievable car to drive. I do love it. Thanks again.

Dane,

I am curious, too, about your car's S/N. I can offer no explanation nor have I come across any explanation in the Ferrari literature I've read thus far.

The S/N should also be stamped on the plate on the driver's door jamb.

Perhaps the previous owner can offer some additional history.

Barry,

Yes, I found the stamp on the door jamb. Every S/N is 20920 and looks very original and unaltered. The mystery goes on...

I wouldn't worry too much about it. In Ferrari history everything is possible. It is the Italian administration system. Nothing recorded and really built with even number! Probably a very genuine car, but officially never built :p

Niels,

Thank you for your input. I can't say I've been really concerned about it just very curious as to it's story. The web-site that captmoore showed is very nice. Man, there's some damn nice cars there. Thanks guys.

Dane,

Right, no reason for concern. I'm sure there's an interesting reason for the even S/N which distinguishes your car.

Barry,

I wonder if it could be the color as I have never seen another 308 like it. I'm not saying I'm special; just a thought!! :D I'll track it down somehow...Thank you,
