There's a '93 3.4 Mondi T with Valeo transmission for sale over here at the moment, and I was interested in what people think of this system. I understand that it has no clutch pedal & uses electronics to auto-engage/disengage the clutch when the gear lever is moved.

Was this system further developed into the current F1 system, or was it used in any other cars?

Sorry for my ignorance. I didn't realize Ferrari made a car like this. I hope others can shead some light on this subject as I know this is the car you really want. Good luck, its been a long wait and worth it I'm sure.

I've only seen it referenced in print. As you said the car has the normal set up as a regular car with full manual gearbox with the exception of no clutch pedal. And I would assume it was the precursor to the “F1” gearbox. The working description is as you've stated above. But, it was never used in any other car. And as far as how many Mondials it came in I would assume it was a very, very small number. I think it first showed up in the 3.2. So if you have found a Mondial T, a rare bird to start with, that has this transmission you’ve really got a very rare car. How reliable it is… I have no idea. The Ts were as reliable as the early 348s and those weren’t the most reliable Ferraris (we’ll leave it at that- as much as I love them). So, throw in a crazy (did I say crazy? :nuts: ) gearbox and who knows?!

I’d say go take a look at the car and take it for a spin. You’d certainly would be one of the very few who would ever have the experience of driving a car like that.

I know where there's a nice 4valve one you can get in the mid 20s! U.S. that is.

Black on black with some nice 3 piece wheels.... :wink:

Want a RHD model, Senna.

I think this car would be nice (and cheap for me) to own and maintain for the once a year drive during the F1 drivers parade. :wink:

I remember I have a small article about it. I can photograph it if you want. It is indeed a sort of F1 clutch, but with the normal stick. Just shift and the automatic clutch will figure it all out. It is a rare bird, and a very rare bird if it is RHD. Can you write down the VIN for me if you see the car? I like numbers of rare cars :)

It's funny, more 308s were made than any other Ferrari and yet it's very hard to find anything written about them.

Here is a very good book covering the 308 series. From the Gt4 to the F40. Mondials are included, as is the trany in question. The book deals more with design changes than driving impressions. A must for anyone looking to buy any of the V8s before the 355.

I don't have this yet, I'll get one when I'm in Melbourne. There's this bookshop called Technical Bookstore and it has almost every book that's written about cars! One of my favourite place to spend my afternoons.

Wow, Stradale, sounds like a wonderous place. Must be a fun destination. Technical...sounds like it would have all sorts of stuff like architecture and engineering and the like as well?

I remember reading a short article on the Valeo system a while back. I believe it was a French system, used only in the Mondial, and only for a very short tiem at the end of the model run. Reliabilty is rumored to be good but becuase so few were made, the data is sparse. Ferrari dropped it in favor of developing the F1 system.

Ah, I gotcha.

Wow, if the valeo tranny ever has any problem, I bet it'll be hard to find parts then. But if it's reliable, you shouldn't have to worry about that.
