anyone know of any good modern replacements for Michelin XWX tyres with same profile etc? Doesn't seem to make sense to put these on an old car inspite of the obvious aesthetic appeal, given tyre technology has changed significantly over the last 30years

There are a few companies offering new "old" tires, even the Michelin XWX... But they are made using modern rubber compounds and manufacturing techniques. Best of both worlds: old style/new technology.

I forgot to add to that, I've used none of these places, I used cheap Pirelli P4000's on my 308 GT4...

On dry roads, yes. Wet roads, no.

Coker XWX

I used Coker XWXs on my restored 79308GT4. They worked great.
