A VIN consists of 17 digits all starting with ZFF (With is Italy, Ferrari, Maranello plant). Depending on the age of your car, the last 5 or 6 numbers are the actual serial number. At the moment they are in the 129000 range, but somewhere in the 355 production, they went from 099000 to 100000. You can derive a lot from the VIN, all letters and numbers have a meaning.

If you own a 550 it should be somewhere in the 108000-125000 series I guess. I have no idea of how many were built, but I guess you could contact Ferrari itself thru their website or maybe FNA. Probably within a couple of months or years Cavallino will provide those details.

No, I am gonna be on thin ice for a moment, but this is what I understand. In the early days even numbers were used for competition models, odd numbers were used for street cars. Between 10000 and 75000 most of the s/n were even and so, approxiamately half of the range are build. Then after 75000 (era of Testarossa and 328) each number was accounted for. There is no sequence (except for the 550 Barchetta) were ascending serial numbers are given to a specific type of cars. It is probably given to whichever car is finished first. So, in short, you do not own the 108th Maranello. I think you have one of the earlier examples, but I am not sure. As for the number of cars produced: Reportedly, de Montezemolo drives a 575M as commuter which should be the 100000th Ferrari produced (s/n 127690)

Thanks for pointing that out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This means I am not going to make it :-( A friend just called me and asked me if I can take pictures of the rallysprint in Rotterdam! He is one of the drivers main 'official' photographers and is not able to go to the event. Hence, I will be there!
