I am about to buy a Testarossa (1990) but would first love to find a buyers guide or at least some tips on what to look for when buying.

Would anyone here have any ideas?

Thanks for supporting Ferrari Forum and welcome to the site. If you have any additional questions beyond the guide please don't hesitate to ask. The Testarossa is a great Ferrari and very raw.

What exactly are you looking for? a Testarossa? 512 TR? or a F512M?

Hi Enzo,
Thank you for the welcome. I am looking at a 1990 model. I like the 512TR & 512M, but here in Australia they appear overpriced. The Testarossa however, in my opinion looks like good value. Plus, it’s been on my shopping list since 1994, so its about time.

G'day and welcome to the site!!

What sort of prices do those three models command in Oz?

In the UK at the moment, there's not always a huge gap between the Testarossa and the 512tr - which makes the latter a better buy, but there's invariably quite a big jump to the 512M.

Actually - forgot to ask - is buying a Ferrari a way of making yourself feel better about the cricket?

Cars down here are expensive. Things like import duties and luxury car tax keep prices high.

In the late 80’s, I seem to remember seeing new Testarossas go for close to $500,000au ($380,000us or 210,000stg) and near new ones get up to $40,000 more (given the waiting list at the time).

These days, I’ve seen mid 80’s models got for as little $120,000au ($91000us or 50,000stg). The 90 model I am considering is $170,000. I think that is fair in this country although I have not seen it in person yet.

I realize that US and UK (and probably most other places) are much cheaper for all types of cars and trust me we are all jealous.

As for the 512TR and M models, I have only seen one of each for sale. From memory both were around the same price – over $300,000! I sat in an M model a few weeks back and just didn’t see the value.

As for cricket… I gave up on all that when all those rumors of bribery and cheating came out a few years back. Not long before then my father and I were at a match and he kept insisting both teams were deliberately dropping catches and letting fours through. It all made sense. On top of that, I think a lot of us are sick of hearing about Shane Warne’s rooting around.

Go Webber I guess!

Blimey - that is a big difference - I can see why you can't see the value in going for the tr/m.

I know Ferrari's are ferociously expensive in Oz - which is a shame. Whenever I've been there I've always been jealous of the weather!! I ride my motorbike/use the Ferrari for about 5 months of the year - in Sydney I could use it all year round. So although you may pay more, you get more value!!

I'm trying to make you feel better, but I'm sure it's not working!

Hope the car you're looking at turns out to be "the one"

Know what you mean about the cricket - although I've waited many many years to be able to give some back to the Aussies :D

Ah just noticed the ZX-12. I used to have a Hayabusa (the enemy). Now I have a gixxer1000. It's only used as a race bike. It's not exactly stock and it's great fun. I'd like to see a car wheel stand in 4th gear...

To be honest, I quite like the Hayabusa, in that it's probably a little more comfortable than the ZX-12 - but it's just so damned ugly!!! I couldn't live with myself if I'd bought one!! I did think about a Blackbird, which is even more comfortable again - but in the end the lure of the "big fat sports style monster" that is the ZX-12 won through!!

It's obviously no GSXR1000 - but for something so heavy it does handle remarkably well - and Christ is it fast!!! :eek:
