State Inspection

In Maine you have to get your cars inspected once every year. So there's this retired guy in the next town over who has a little garage and inspections are all he does now. He doesn't do any repair work so he's never busy and you do not need an appointment.

So I pull up with my Ferrari and he comes walking out and says, "Can I help you?". I say, "Can I get an inspection sticker?" He just says, "Nope." I'm just like, "Why not?" He says, "You don't have a front license plate." (Maine requires a front plate on cars, I did know this) So reach behind the seat, pull it out to show him and say, "Oh, I've got one." He says, "It needs to be on the car." I pull out some cable ties and say, "I can strap it to the grill right now." He says, "It needs to be securely fastened, with screws." This is when I get out to show him, "This car is from Italy, there is no bracket for a license plate and no where to mount one without covering up a driving light or the radiator."
SO he bends down to look for himself and then looks at the bumper and says, "You could drill a couple of holes right here."

We look at each other for a few seconds and I go, "I'm not drilling holes in my Ferrari." He looks around, shrugs his shoulders and says, "Just put the plate on."

So I took my cable ties and strapped it to the grill. He went through the lights, horn, wipers and then put a sticker on it. The next day I cut the cable ties and put the plate back behind the seat. Good for another year.

that's the way it goes!!!!!
You better thank god you don't live out here in California. They throw tickets at you left and right for not having a front plate. It helps them with laser guns and the cameras for running red lights. It also gives them an excuse to pull you over if you don't have it and they don't like the looks of you.

I've gotten used to the look of it on my car now. But, it was a heart breaking moment when I had to drill into my front bumper to attach the mouniting bracket.
It's a similar story here in the UK for me - all vehicles over 3 years old have to have an MOT (no idea what that stands for) certificate.

Of course, it's illegal to have a race can on the bike, it's also illegal to have a smaller than the regulations licence place etc.

So each year I've needed to do it (which I won't for a while as my current bike is only a few months old) I turn up with the standard can and the right licence plate, say "Do you really want me to put these on for the half hour it's going to take you to do this?"

They always say "No, don't bother" - and everyone's happy!! It's such a pain though!!

Glad to hear you didn't start drilling holes in your car though!! That really WOULD be a tragedy.

I'm so jealous that you don't have to have a front licence plate - here in the UK it's compulsory. Cars look so much better without them though.

did he said that to you with a straight face?????
The last 612 I saw here had the front plate mounted on the left front side of the car. I bet they are going to have problems with that, because it needs to be in the middle of the car. Also it was a sticker, also not allowed here... Terrible country we have :p

He was completely serious, but I think immediately after he said it he knew what he was asking. That's when he said to go ahead and put the plate on with the cable ties.

Actually Bazil, I do have to have a front plate. It's just that here in Maine they haven't really enforced it.

And just for your information, MOT stands for Ministry of Transport. Its a crying shame that a damn Yank has to explain that to you. :green: :green: :green:

we also have to have a front license plate
altough i have seen several ferrari's that placed smaller stickers instead,
i've even seen such a sticker on one of the belgian Enzo's but in such a place that it's impossible to see while driving 8)

I wonder how they solve this with the Enzo! License plate in the middle would couse serious problems...

...I hope front license plates are soon to be gone! They could just chip our cars not?
When I have had to put a front plate on my F355, I have used this semi industrial double sided tape with a foam sandwich in between the two adhesive sides. So far it has worked extremely well.

That's OK Bazil, you've had the opportunity to correct me on more than one occasion. It felt good to return the favor.
