I'm not so sure - I think it's natural to assume that as it's a jolly expensive car it's going to have a jolly accurate speedo. But I've heard that Mercedes speedos - until the very recent models - used to regularly read +10% - which is an awful lot!!Enzo250GTO said:I'm guessing pretty damn accurate.

When tyres are new they come with 7mm of tread (I think), the limit (in UK) is 1.6mm.
diameter of wheel in mm = 9*25.4 = 228.6mm
depth of tyre wall = 275 * 0.35 = 96.25mm
max wheel diameter = 228.6 + 96.25 + 7 = 331.85mm
min diameter of wheel = 228.6 + 96.25 + 1.6 = 326.45
With wheel diameter being directly proportional to speed then the difference is (331.85-326.45)/331.85 * 100 = 1.6%!!

I thought about getting a GT3, but can't justify the expense. I drove the M3 for over two years, it's a fast car with flaws. Yes, it was the E46. I remember hitchhiking in the mountains of Switzerland in 1971 (I'm 50). We went from Interlaken to Grindelwald and back. We got a ride from a nice family, but the driver was quite drunk.
