Since some of us seem to have some fun identifying Ferraris, lets test our General Ferrari Knowledge (the GFK experiment :lol: )

I'll start off with some easy ones:

1) Which car was nicknamed 'sharknose' ? (official type please)
2) Name three Lancia's with a Ferrari power unit.
3) Which driver won in a Ferrari on his debut in the World Championship Formula 1 ?
4) How many F40's are built?
5) When did Enzo Ferrari die?

Well, not bad! Almost: 4 out of 5, which I think is a typo anyway! Enzo died in 1988 and not in 1998!


As for the Lancia's you could also name the D50 F1 car of 1956, where Fangio drove it to the title.

Baghetti won indeed in Reims first time out in a WC round, he already won several non-championship rounds before that.

1311 is the most reliable source officially, but since there are also RHD F40s available it might be a bit more!


And the new questions are (level two):
1) What car is a GTB Turbo and why is it made?
2) Which F1 driver is the most succesfull Ferrari driver after Michael Schumacher?
3) When was the Scuderia Ferrari started?
4) Which was the first car produced by Enzo Ferrari and in what year?
5) What is the normal meaning in the numbers given to a Ferrari model (like 348, 456, 512 etc...)

1. 208gtb turbo was especially produced to adapt to Italian engine litre laws. It was fitted with a kkk turbocharger and had 220hp , increased 254 in 1986. I should add that the 86' version looked like a 328.....

3. Scuderia Ferrari was formed in 1946, but we all know that the fifty anniversary is 1948

they can have engine capacity per cylinder (250gt)
engine capacity + # of cylinders (308)

or now even after it's founding father (The Enzo)

that means the racing team, not the marque
so that's in the end of the 1920th.

And Enzo produced cars before that, not unther his name, but for Alfa

#3 is confusing but what you're refering to is 1929(the societa anonima Scuderia Ferrari ) was formed...But Enzo stilled worked for Alfa...

Hmm, almost

Question 1 is answered mainly correct, but I specifically asked for the GTB Turbo. This indeed was the 2,0 liter version of the 328 GTB! Others (the 308 GTB/GTS and GT4 versions) were called 208 instead of 308. Only the 328 versions were called GTB Turbo and GTS Turbo without a number before it.

Question 2 is answered correctly.

Question 3 is incorrect. The Scuderia Ferrari was started in 1929 when Enzo Ferrari ran Alfa Romeo GP cars.

Question 4 is not true, since I asked for the first car that Enzo Ferrari built! You are right when I meant the first Ferrari named car, but actually I was thinking of the Auto Avio Construzione 815 of 1940!

Question 5 is very nicely answered!


Anyone can give me a hard question?

Hmmm, not as easy for me as you might think! Since I don't want to check the books, but want to try it from memory I will go for the following answers, where I am only sure from question 3!

1) Might be the Daytona, but a Dino can be it as well.

2) It was in the Lauda era, so my guess will be 1974?

3) Brazil 1989

As I said, only one for sure :-?

All are correct....I try to do it from memory, but books are there for research.Ferraris history is complex...so dates/cars/drivers/races, and stories are easily forgotten..

2. it was the year that the Mclarens dominated and the only race Ferrari won was the italian GP .But more importantly, Mr Ferrari had died on Aug14, while the race was held sept11....Berger won followed by Alboreto making it 1-2 FERRARI!!!
3. Purist will say that a ferrari without a v12 is a dino. But the dino was of coursed named for Enzo's son .......
4. Dino and Piero...maybe a daughter..not sure

Very nice, one little point: The Dino was indeed named after his son, but only the V6-engine cars which reputedly was designed by Alfredino Ferrari. It is however one of the unconfirmed stories in Ferrari history. For sure it is only used on the V6 cars, with the exception of the early 308 GT4s.

As far as I know indeed only two sons, Alfredino Ferrari and Piero Lardi.

2. Name 3 of the 7 I-4-cyl Ferraris (I only know this because I've been making the models section)?

3. Which Ferrari (and car for that matter) spent the most time in the wind tunnel (a little easy)?

4. Which Ferrari was designed by Enzo (another easy one)?

The question about the ferrari naming isnt entirely correct. Alot of 12 cyl ferraris used unitary displacement. A recent example is the 456. 456cc x 12=5472cc=~5.5L Tht 365, 330, 250, 166, 400, 412, etc all were named this way.

Very hard ones indeed!

Lets try some (again without the books), pretty sure many are wrong, so don't give away the answers yet!

1) It was developed out of the SWB and was made for race homologation purposes.

2) 750 Monza, 500 Mondial, 857S ????

3) Probably the Modulo.

4) Didn't know he designed one, but probably the 125.

As I said, I would like to know the right answers :ex:
