I need to get my Boxer aircon recharged.

Does anyone know of a company who knows what they are doing with the RS12 replacement gas (RS24) rather than just the modern RS134 stuff?

Ideally in Argyll :)

...but otherwise anyone in Scotland or anyone I might pass on the way to Goodwood next month.

John- You do not want to do that. Freon is widely available, if a little expensive, and is a much better refrigerant than R134. Your marginal AC system will be even less viable with R134. The only reason we made the switch was for environmental reasons (ozone hole, etc) and the number of cars still using Freon is so small, it will not affect anything, especially with modern Freon capture and recycle fill systems.

Hi Terry,

I've either misunderstood you or you me. I am not saying I want to put R134 in. I understand that is no good for a system as old as mine (smaller molecules, leaks through seals etc etc)

I am looking for someone with RS24 gas which I am led to believe is a direct replacement for the RS12 that would have been drained/removed from my system when it was dismantled.

I get the impression that RS12 is no longer available in the UK (or Europe or whatever) and that was why RS24 was developed??

Please do correct me if I'm getting this wrong.

I have since found someone who works with RS24 and previously recharged a friend's 928 with appropriate gas.

John- Freon is still available here for shops with the correct equipment, not sure about the EU. All those substitutes are less effective than R12, but if it is not available....

In many places outside of the US R12 is banned totally.

Gives me a little piece of mind knowing that rampant, bad science based, misguided environmentalism has run even further amok than it has here.

It gets worse. Even the R24 is now banned in the UK and specialists are being forced to surrender any remaining gas.. Looks like I may have to get the whole system upgraded to take R134.

John- Probably time for a new compressor and save the original one for any concourse you enter.

It turns out that I was able to get the system re-charged.
R437 gas and POE68 oil.

If anyone is looking for a proper aircon engineer who can work with older systems, for Scotland or the north of England, then PM me and I will gladly recommend the gentleman I used.

John- Glad something worked out well for you. Plus it is not like you will see any 38 C days where you are.
