In the most current DU Pont registry there is a 288 GTO advertised. The
asking price is 750k. I believe the market price of this vehicle to be in
the low 300's. Either this buyer is out of touch with the market or he is on
a fishing expedition.

I was about to post something about that too.

My guess is that, with Christmas coming, a wife/husband somewhere, not really knowing the market and wanting to buy her/his husband/wife a new toy, would be the buyer at that price.

My question though is, do you concider the 288GTO a supercar to be compared to the likes of the F40/F50/Enzo?

Fair point - but who buys a GTO without knowing the market? Even I'm not that crazy - and I'm known for buying stupid things!!!

Good question.

I think when you consider that the GTO was developed specifically for Group B - which was to be the ultimate showcase for the best manufacturers could offer - then you have to. In one respect - it's even more of a race car than the others. Ferrari has, at various times, stated that it wouldn't race the others - but the GTO was specifically a homologation model.

Also, the F40 was so heavily developed from the GTO that I think you have to talk about them in almost the same breath.

And finally - the GTO is the rarest of the four - which always counts for something!! :D

Having said that - this is purely my personal opinion - I'd be interested to know what anyone else thinks, including you Spyder!! 8)

actually there's a story about that GTO and it's price

if i remember correctly
some guy who got rich overnight in IT or the stock (can't remember) bought the car for that price without thinking or looking at the market first and paid double for it.

So now he want's to get rid of it for the same price, but as everybody knows that's WWWAAAAAYYYYYYYY too much.
i believe the car is already for sale for a year or so now, still at the same price

I don't think the 288GTO has the look of an extraordinary supercar. Sure it may be fast as helll, but the F40/F50/Enzo have the supercar look to back the performance and price. The 288 looked to much like the 308/328, which are considerably "cheaper".

If the 308/328 had never existed - would you still say it doesn't look like an extraordinary supercar? No way!! The GTO looks exactly how a supercar should look!!!

It's not about whether or not it looks like a cheaper car - and besides, looking like another model of Ferrari hardly devalues it!! If it looked like a Skoda Estelle I could understand what you're saying!!!

Not quite sure what a Skoda Estelle is but anyway I was merely saying a supercar should look somewhat not cookie cutter, like the F40 F50 or Enzo. You have to admit that these cars are certainly supercar-like just by looking at them. I personally don't think the 288 is too stunning as far as looks are concerned. If you feel otherwise, more power to you.

Fair enough - these things are all personal opinion.

What I'm trying to say is that I think you'd have thought the GTO was "supercar-like" before the F40, F50, Enzo were created.

Personally - I think the Testarossa could easily be added to the list. I remember when it was first launched - I felt the same way about it as I did when I saw the others for the first time - apart from the F50, maybe.

After the F40, the F50 kind of left me cold - it wasn't different enough from the F40 to really make me think "WOW"!

Although the 'super-Ferrari' line seems to ever seem to put supercar to a higher level my PERSONAL opinion is that looks are decreasing accordingly.

If I had too choose between these for cars the GTO would be on 1, the F40 on two and the Enzo will definately will be last. I even hate to admit it, but I probably would choose a a Jaguar XJ220, Bugatti EB110, Mercedes GTR, McLaren F1, Porsche GT1 anytime over an Enzo.

SORRY GUYS!

When I think of a "Supercar", I think about performance.
Looks aside, performance is what counts. If the car looks like it is going 200m.p.h. while parked, but can not even do 100 while driving, it is not a supercar. Case in point, Fords GT90 concept and Pontiacs Banshee. Both cars look like fast runners, but neither one could top 60m.p.h.
I do see the 288GTO as a supercar because it does have the performance to back the title. In fact, I found the attached pic somewhere on the 'net. Can't remember where, but I think it shows the evolution of the Ferrari Supercars very well.
What do you think?
