Thinking about getting one in the next few months.

Mods will begin almost immediatly. Turbo upgrade, short shifter, downpipe, chip, etc, etc, etc...

I'm still not sure whether to get the old Bi-Turbo 2.7 liter, or the new 4.2 liter V8.

I think the turbo has more potential, but I don't like to buy a car that is too old.

And it would be nice to have one of the first custom setups for the new V8. *shrugs*

What do you think of them? Any personal experience?

Thanks!

It all depends on your preference. I perfer the Audi over the M3. Either way you know your getting a rock solid car. The only drawback I have to the Audi is its a little big for my taste. I would go with the V8 because you'll have more low end torque. Although its nice to have a turbo, but I hate turbo lag.

Once you have driving an Audi, you will love them
You really notice the difference in quality against the VW.
Andrew, everybody has a differen't taste, i like some bigger cars, mainly because i feel safer, and also because my dog want's the room in the car.
One of my favourite Audi's (that i want to have) is an A6 Avant 2.5 TDI

Don't misunderstand me. I too like big cars but the S4 is a sports sedan. Yes if I'm getting a sedan this or a AMG Mercedes is my car of choice. I'm just saying I'd rather have say....a Z06 (hell I don't know where I pulled that from). I think the price range is very close of course the Z06 being slightly more but the markup on S4s are pretty high. The one problem I see in the current sports car market is there really isn't a stand out european sports car that is mid price range. The only cars that are close are all more than 50k. The Audi TT while cool looking is not the performance it should be. Same is true of both Boxsters. The M3 is the closest thing but is it a sports car? or coupe? or GT?

Well, I was doing some research and I found out the 2003 Audi RS6 will come with a Bi-Turbo V8. But handling apparently sucks hard with it. Not to mention is only comes in 5 spd auto. Forget that!

I think I might opt for the S4, get some major wieght reduction, and then throw on the RS6 turbos.

The size of the car bothers me as well. I think the older models (00-01) were a bit smaller than this new generation, and apparently handled much better as well. Handling is going to be a big part since I plan on racing this in Auto-Cross as well as full road courses.

Who knows, maybe I'll end up getting an E46 M3, or maybe even my dream, an F355.

Grrr! Decisions, decisions!

Thanks for the opinions.

Dare I say to look beyond Europe? If your patient and can hold out for two years (I think its two) you could get the new RX-8. Someone also said that Lotus is bringing the Elise to America, so I heard? Can someone confirm this? For what you want to do both the S4 and M3 are great choices, but I think the M3 is probably the better of the two, after all the S4 for created to compete with this very car, so BMW must be doing something right.

but if you are talking lotus then you are going to sports cars
with the audi and the bmw you are talking about luxury sports sedans
that's a big difference.

BTW are elise's allowed on track day's in the US?

I know that Elise aren't road legal because of the crash test and no airbags, but if you only use the car as a track car, isn't it possible that it is allowed, what are the laws on trackcars in the US??

and about TVR (one of my fav british cars) in the movie Swordfish Travolta is driving a Tuscan, but that car is also not roadlegal.
How come that they got the use the car and even drive it?

You can bring any car into the states under a Show and Display title. Comes with a yearly milage limit of 2500 miles. If I had the cash, I would probably buy a Pagani Zonda... but obviously I don't have the cash.

I think I'm starting to lean more towards the older model S4; 2000 or 2001. The lighter bi-turbo V6. With the proper tuning and suspension mods, it can handle pretty well, and still kick some ass in the acceleration area.

That car is real? I saw one of those the second week I was here and couldn't believe what I was seeing. At first glance I thought it was the new Shelby or a Panoz. That car is very cool.

The one in the movie looked like some concept future car that wasn't real. The one in Japan was very real as it was parked on the side of the street. I also saw a TVR today the Coupe version of the Griffin (sorry my TVR knowledge isn't very good).
