Have you tried a pinhole camera? The depth of field is total with that sort of setup, so a really excellent model will be indistinguishable from a real car because its environment in the picture would contain no focus clues as to the model's size. Unfortunately, it's impossible to guess what the exposure is (who knows what the f-stop is, and how do you shutter it? Plus it requires cut film which isn't usually available at Rite -Aid). I've never heard of a digital pinhole setup but I'll bet one exists or was tried somewhere on the Net. I know that model railroad enthusiasts have used pinhole cameras to take images of their layouts with startling success.
