What are the pluses and minuses of the 360 Modena? Thanks!
Hi Bob and welcome,
The 360 is a great car and it is quite reliable.
It is critical that since this is your first that you have the car inspected by a knowledgeable Ferrari mechanic before you commit. The prior services are critical to know if and when done.
If a 1999 or early 2000, you have to confirm that he variator upgrade has been done. variators are critical for valve timing, and the years I mentioned were part of a necessary recall by Ferrari.
Oil and transmission changes are critical as are timing belt changes. Ferrari says every 3 years or 30K miles, but few drive their cars 30K miles in 3 years! Find out when last done and if the tensioner bearings were replaced when the belts were last done.
What is the transmission? If an F1 you need to have the sysytem read by a dealer or service facility that has an SD2/3 electronic computer to determine where the clutch life is. The F1 system can have issues, expensive maintenance, and excessive clutch wear.
Thus if an F1 make sure you spend time with someone who can show you the best way to drive with this to ensure you get full clutch life.
Make certain there are three (3) key fobs. One red and two black. The red is the critical master, and if the seller does not have the red one a bell should go off. You can purchase new ones from Ferrari, but that's about an $800 cost plus the programming time.
Pros and Cons?
A fabulous car you need to learn slowly because it can bite! It's a power house that can get away from you very quickly.
Very few negatives. I really can't think of any. It's fabulous. wait a minute I just thought of a negative. The clock stinks and should not be in that vehicle.
If you care for it and you will enjoy it.
I suggest you take your time making a purchase decision. Many cars are available today due to owners being unable to afford the services and they are, therefore, dumping out of them.
If I can help further I would be pleased to do so.
