Thought I would put down a few thoughts/experiences of driving my 365BB #17977

Today I went to the Goowood Breakfast meet for Italian Cars. They have one meet each first Sunday of the month with various different themes. I checked the weather report last night and all looked clear and even prediction of sun!! So a 5:45am start and I personally apologise to my neighbours if I awoke them on a Sunday.

This was my first real drive in the dark and the cabin feels so much different, with the lovely soft orange glow from the instruments. After a few miles fog came in and as we say here ‘as thick as pea soup’ undeterred I switched on the fog lights and they cut through it so well. I have to say I’ve never had a car with fog lights that are brighter than my main headlights J

The A27 dual carriageway, which for those who don’t know, runs along the south coast of England is a wonderful road at that time of day. With long sweeping turns, it gave me a chance to open the engine up and I have to say it didn’t disappoint, especially through one of the long tunnels on route, such a beautiful sound from the 4.4 litres.

From home to Goodwood is a 74 mile journey and I arrived, after a quick pit stop for coffee, at 7:15am. The car felt like it wanted to go on further, “don’t stop” I’m sure I heard it say. Considering it’s an event that is meant to start at 8am by the time I had arrived the first paddock area was almost full and by the official start all paddocks and track areas were brimming full of amazing Italian cars.

My 365BB was the only one there and for that matter the only BB, there was a nice selection of early cars from Dinos, 308s, two F40s (one black) an FF and a beautiful 330GTC. I must say, as a meet goes it’s one of the best around and well organised but sadly the time came to depart.

By midday the sun was at full strength was a positively barmy 18 degrees, all this meant for a highly enjoyable drives back. The car is a real pleasure to drive and one that I hope to update you on any further journeys I take.

I’ve included just a few photos of the day below.

Enjoy
Paul

Thank you for that nice Report, Paul. Happy you have excercised your stunning 365 BB. Your car really Looks splendid. No better way to spend a sundeay in southern England.
I felt with you when you write about that "cousiness" in light of the orange gauges around you and darkness outside...happened to me many times when leaving Switzerland at 3 or 4 am to London at midday, except my gauges are more white to a slight yellow  Same Feeling about the neighbors, although normally I start on a weekday and after all they should be up at 4 am to be serious Swiss'...as me:crowngrin:!

I've always wanted to go to the Goodwood Sunday Breakfasts. Looks like a great day out. I like your new vintage style number plates! What colour was the GTC and was it LHD? Perhaps my two exes were at the same event.....

Very nice report and glad to hear that you are bonding with the BB.

How did the Enzo look in grey?
I don't know the official name for it but more blue/grey than grey. Either way it looked amazing, I hadn't really been into the Enzo in terms of design until I saw this, something about the lines that looked better than in the usual red or black.

Yes I like the black too Onno, these are temp ones until I get a smaller one for the front. (hits my sloped drive :)

And the 330 was in blue and for the life of me cant recall if it was LHD. What plate was it on?
and yes would be funny if you had two ex's there

best wishes

My GTC was sold from Holland to the UK and thus doesn't have the plates anymore that she had when under my care. I don't know where she is now, just that she was sold from a UK broker in the last month or so, could be to the UK or somewhere else.

But mine was blue, so it's possible.

I believe to have seen her offered thru a german broker. Sadly always in such cases, the path gets lost for some time quickly. It still makes me sad that you sold your best piece but fully understand the rationals behind it.:cry3:

Agree, for some reason the lines just look much better in that color grey.

QM- Tell us more. Ickx was always one of my favorite drivers, especially if it was raining.

Never mind, see it is a Jacky Ickx watch.

Great day driving......

Been so busy at work, but today was free so I got the 365 out and dusted off a Vintage Heuer race watch.

I just never seem to tire of driving her, clear roads, goosebumps on the arms from that beautiful sound when accelerating.

It's going back to its original colour after Xmas. What will I do for 4months :(

Fantastic news!

About 3 years ago, I had a telephone conversation with the first owner, a lawyer named John Keith Morgan, in Birmingham, whom I tracked down easily because he still practiced then in the same street as the car was first registered (!!). I promised him a ride in the car when it was back in its original colour. Can you hold that promise for me? He was quite keen to see the car again that he bought as a young man.

I will PM you the contact details.

Hi Onno

Yes for sure, I would be delighted to meet the first owner once the car is back to blue. I will make contact with him.

Will be great to swap stories and document the occasion in what will be exactly the 40th anniversary since he first bought the car.

Thanks for the PM

Best
Paul.

Paul, congrats and a great story.

Also, what is it like to drive? I'm looking for a car that is nimble, manual, able to work through the gears up the hills etc and dare I say it, "is not too powerful for regular street driving".

I just love the lines and the exposable engine (just like for an F40 which is probably unobtainable for me).

David.
