Is it just too obvious to buy a Ferrari when you are 45? I am a young 45, but wish I'd gotten a SWB when I was 25!

Nah, go for it. Tell the world that you can finally afford the things you wanted when you were 25. Unless, of course, your wife says you can't have it. :) :)

Listen there is no such thing as a mid life Ferrari it's like Pete said know you can finally show to people you can afford the finer things.
Now that being said that doesnt mean that you can go and buy just any old sport car cause that screams mid life crisis here is a short list to help you.
Miata
Iroc
VW bug
Camaro
Trans Am
Corvette(but not the z06)
Pontiac solstice
Saturn Sky
Eclipse
Any Mustang
etc etc etc etc etc etc
Hope I could help now go help yourself to driving a legend...

No. Repeat, no. At 16 it is abnoxious. At 45, it means you are successful and know what you want. At 85, you are just plain cool.

One of the coolest people I ever meet was an F40 owner in his late 70's. He had owned the F40 for close to 20 years and driven it close to 100,000 km. He said he prefered it to his Enzo but not quite as much as his 250 GTO.

Boxer, did you tell him to join the forum?

It would be great to have someone with such experience (and pretty much the best garage possible) around here.

Obvious - schmobvious. Who cares? Enjoy the fact that life has been good to you. I know so many people that do not enjoy life even though they could. Set a good example!

As an aside, I would also like to add - where is the crisis in a mid-life crisis? Young gf, sports car, good food and wine. Not like any crisis I've ever encountered. But maybe I've just always misinterpreted the phrase "I'm having sleepless nights". :D:D:D

LOL

Great point, Onno! My crisis include young girlfriend (she's older than me, but 23 still counts as young, right?) and good food, at least! hehehehe

That's a great way to see life :D

Go for it, age should not be an issue, I was 38 when I bought my Ferrari, I'd guess that most of the owners on the forum are in their 30's and 40's.
Buying one in your mid life shows the world that you've worked hard all of your life, saved up and can now afford the finer things in life, buying one in your teens or early 20's just says that you have rich parents

I'd still have preferred the rich parents, Archie. :D

Me too, but as they weren't I had to get my Ferrari the hard way, probably like everyone else on here. Anyhow working hard, dreaming for 20 odd years about owning a Ferrari, even a cheap one, makes it all the more special when you eventually achieve it. Would it feel the same if you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and got a brand new F430 for your 18th/21st birthday present?
