Thursday, I needed to go to an office to drop off some papers. It is near the Ferrari dealership. Ryan, a young buck in my office, drives a Nissan RXS or something. It is a very nice car and quick. I thought I could give him a ride in my beast and maybe let him drive it a bit.
After dropping off the papers, I had him drive to the dealership. Like anyone else, the first time you drive any car, you do not know the braking, steering, or acceleration of it. He was very careful with it and only made a couple of errors. I than decided to take him to lunch. He said he knew of a nice place and I said go for it.
He got off the freeway on Edinger heading east. At the stop light on Redhill, he said, “This is the border between Tustin and Irvine. Neither city cops patrols it. I just look at him. I did not know what he was up too. The light turned green.
Well, now, I now know what it feels like to go thru the gears. As we hit 140 mph, I suggested we slow down. At 145 mph he did. He then put it in neutral and coasted for a while. He never made it into 6th. Say, the beast does roll a long way.
At lunch, I told him going that fast in the city is jail time. He looked at me and said, “Bart, this is a well known race strip. Many of us use it at night or during the day.”
Great and the police know nothing about it. Humm. I think I will stay away from that section for a while.
One cannot make the driver nervous at high speeds. That is dangerous for all.
