A few months back I mentioned about my friend's Mondial that got stolen from outside his house. If you remember I was considering buying the car, but then it got nicked!
Anyway on Saturday I popped into his garage (He owns a mechanic's garage specialising in Italian cars) to see if he had any news from the police. To my surprise the car was parked in his garage!
Turns out the car was tipped off to the police as being stored in a lock up garage. And get this, the garage is at the top of my road!
The car suffered a little damage but not much. Although they had not driven the car more than 100 miles, they had killed the clutch. The back wheel arch was scratched slightly, and the front grill on the bonnet was damaged slightly where the idiots had tried to pull up the hood the wrong way!
On top of that the main damage was to the barral, which had been ripped out, and for some stupid reason some carpets were ripped up. They can be re-stuck down though.
He said they dont know who done it, but mentioned a gang of car thieves in Hertfordshire who had been stealing exotics and shipping them out to 3rd world countries. The gang has now been caught. This car had stood in the garage for 3months, so its possible they stole the car, and got caught before they could ship it out!
Anyway he's offered the car to me again, and he's already started to put the car right. He took the clutch out, and confirmed its poor condition. He's now replaced that. He's gonna look at doing the rest too. Then its down to me if I buy it or not.....
Keep you posted.
