We should all pause for a moment to think about America's first (and only native born) F-1 champion, Phil Hill, who passed away today at age 81.

He was a winner for Ferrari in F-1 and three times at LeMans. When I was first introduced to sports car racing, he was the driver I most looked up to. He was a survivor of the era when too many fine drivers were taken from us too soon & was a worthy link to that era: always thoughtful and ready to share memories of Ferrari's past glories. He still attended F-1 races in his later years and was a welcome guest at the factory in Maranello.

I shall miss him.
