My oil presure gauge shows very high oil presure. It is way past the 70 mark and almost to the end of the gauge. I changed the oil and filters thinking the filters were clogged. Well, that did not help. Any ideas as to what is wrong.

Bart, I would start with the small things first. Your oil pressure sending unit has probably gone bad. Magoo

70 what? PSI? Ferrari engines tend to run high pressures in their engines (308's are set to 85 psi during normal running). Check your manual for typical readings.

The sending unit is good. The pressure is running at about 110 - 120 psi.

Now my mechanic is removing shims on the pressure relive value to lower the oil pressure.

Does this make sense?

Hey Bart, This is like doing this by remote because we don't know all the circumstances but anyway 1. Did you notice normal lower pressure prior to this happening? 2. How many miles are on the car? 3. Is your Tech. a certified Ferrari Tech.? I can tell you that it can be fixed that way to show correctly on the guage but does it correct the problem??? I can't imagine the car not being set properly before it left the factory. These are just questions to get some history for a logical breakdown. I don't know that much about that engine but the mechanics here are basic.

I would check the actual pressure with a mechanical gauge prior to any repairs. These things just don't get out of adjustment. It would be virtually impossible for the springs in the releif valve to get stronger and cause a pressure increase. Most likely it is a defective sending unit or gauge. I would never absolutely trust an electric gauge.
