Hi guys!
Well As all of you can see I'm a new member in your forum.
Te basic reason I joined the Forum is really to learn more from you and to seek for a little bit of advice.
I have always loved Ferraris and have had the chance to drive several of the models made by Ferrari over the years.
Now I'm getting to the point that I'm now in the possibility of owning my first Ferrari.
I have basically owned several German Sports Cars ranging from the 911(996), several BMW's including the only M3 CSL on this side of the ocean(if I'm not mistaken) and a M5.
I have an idea of the Ferrari models I like and this are the 328 Gts, the 550 Maranello or the 575, Mondial coupe (1990's model), the 348 the 355 Berlineta, the 360 Stradalle and naturally all of the super Ferraris, the F50, F40 and Enzo. I have driven a few 360 Modenas and spyder's.
Now I would like to make the right choice by buying the Ferrari that fits more my needs. Although I think a Ferrari instead of a need should be a joy.
So in general my budget for my Ferrari would be around 50 to 70,000. Which Ferrari would be the best one for a beginner Ferrari ownership wise.

first and foremost i would like to welcome you to the forum. I'm sure in time, you'll find yourself at home with us here.

Secondly, you said your budget is around 70,000. Of what currency? If it is in GBP, then your options are amazingly varied. If its USD, i'm sure some of our friends here can assist u on that as well. However if it is RM (ringgit malaysia), the only thing you can get for that kind of money is a Proton Satria GTi. Lol.

Finally, i see that from your garage you have a healthy choice of cars. I am perplexed to see that u have an M3 SMG on order as well. since you already have the CSL why bother buying another M3 which is (performance wise) the less powerful of the two?

Regarding currency I´m looking at USD or Euros. If I have to bring the car I would bring it from Germany maybe.

Regarding ordering the M3 SMG, the reason is quite simple, I love my CSL but it is not a daily driver. Its a crime to drive that car to work. Plus the problem is that I live in a city where summer is a big deal and the CSL does not have A/C. Many would ask, why not drive any of your other cars jeje.
And there is another strong single reason for ordering a brand new M3. I want to drive it all the way to Mexico city and live it there so that I have a car in My Mexico city house.

You have a great collection there CSLJRC. What's missing is a Ferrari.

I assume with that budget you'll probably be able to get an F355B. That would be a great first Ferrari.

With a range of $50k - $70k I think the 355 would be outside the limit. For that price though you should be able to get a real nice 348 or an immaculate 328. Don't forget the Testarossa, that would be well within your price range also.

Nice to see you here. Big collection you got there. I think a 355 is one of the best Ferrari's, I love them! But if indeed this is out of your budget, why not sell a few cars. I personally would go for one normal car and an more expencive Ferrari!? :lol:

But that's just the dream, because I'm glad I can afford one daily car...

You should know what you want. A Testarossa is very nice, but a V12, which means a lot of maintainance costs. A 348 is V8, so cheaper. a 328 is a very god car, and with that amount of money you can by a top one. It is older, so the engine isn't the fastest one around anymore. Look for yourself what you want, drive a few different ones to compare them and make your decision

I guess my all time favorite has been the F355 Berlineta.
As you guys said I could consider selling one of my other cars, which I am. I think if I sell the M5 i will be looking at an extrea 30 thao USD.
Also..... I have seen on Ebay several salvage Ferraris wich they sell for less than 50 thousand USD. I saw basicaly a 550 that roled over, it needed body work, all of the wind shields and slight repair on the front suspension.
Can that be a good option or defenetly I'm looking for trouble?

What is a good milage for a pre owned Ferrari?

If I limit to my initial budget, I think I would consider mostly a 348tb, or a Mondial.
In general I just love to hear that Ferrari engine so going very fast will not do that much because here in The US speeding tikets take all the fun away from owning a sports car.

My plan is to start with something very good such as the models all of you guys say and then maybe save up to buy a 550 or a 360 Stradalle.

I would go 328 instead of 308. 328 is faster and solved all the problems the older 308 had.
Do not buy a crashed Ferrari, because you never know what damage is done. Some things like miniscule cracks can not be seen and will cost you a lot of money because you pay Ferrari-prices.

Welcome. Regarding your first Ferrari quandry and given the other cars in you garage, I would strongly recommend looking for an early F355 B or GTS 8) in the 8 cylinder category or an early 456 GT :wink: in the 12 cylinder family. Performance wise, the 456 GT is stronger than the Testarossa and the F355 was a major advancement vs the 348. You should just be able to find both at the top end of your price range. Maintence will be less expensive on the 8 cylinder cars, but still high vs the other cars in your garage. In terms of an accident damaged car, I would be very careful and have it completely inspected and the repairs verified by a Ferrari dealer. In my opinion, mileage is interesting, but service history critical. Good luck !

I had lunch today with my father and discussed several of the ideas you guys have pointed out.
And he told me that he would also be intrested on buying the Ferrari, so we came to a deal that together we would buy the car.
He sugested he likes more the 575 Maranello or the 550. And if non of those apeal to me the Mondial. Finally the 348.

I still think combined with my father we might have a total budget of les than 120K.

I will go for my favorite the 355. If not maybe the 348.
How good is the Mondial T?
Do any of you have an idea of the average mantainance cost of a Ferrari?

Welcome to the forum, CSLJRC! Quite the garage of cars you've got already.

With $120K, you should be able to find a good 355, even a spider for a little less.

The 355 is a much better car in terms of looks and performance over the Mondial. The mondial is a 2+2, versus the 355 is a 2 seater. So unless you have some smaller individuals, the back seat of the mondial isn't very useful. The reliability of the 355 should be better than the mondial as well.

In terms of maintainence, rough average costs will be $1500-2000 for an 8 cylinder and $2000-2500 for a 12 cylinder.

In the Mondial series, the Mondial T is regarded as being the best in the line.

If you can, I would strongly recommend driving all the different models mentioned and then deciding.

The F355 is generally regarded as being more reliable and has fewer known issues. All three models are a minimum of 5 years old so a detailed service history is critical.

Each Mondial model was produced in parallel with a 2-seater model with pretty much identical mechanicals. That is, the Mondial 'T' is the same as a 348 except for the different & heavier body, the 3.2 is the same as a 328, etc. So you wouldn't expect any big reliability differences between a 'T' and a 348.
