The news came from Autocar.

Paraphrasing Autocar's article( thanks to rico, f-chat member):

"After the 430spider and 575 replacement, the Ferrari designers will turn their attention to the Super Enzo. The replacement Enzo will be the last of a breed, after that the Ferraris will become smaller, lighter and greener.
Ferrari's innovation department, under Franco Cimatti, has already completed work on the Super Enzo's direction.
Quote from a senior engineer, "In five years we have to have a new Enzo, but we have not yet decided what that special model is. It's in innovation and concept stages. We haven't fixed anything".
Special consideration has been giving to a tandem layout, with the passenger behind the driver. Ferrari is currently building a 3-seater F1 car, and this could influence the super Enzo in a McLaren type of positioning.
The V12 Enzo engine has a lot of potential, so a 6.5 or 6.8 litre version is a real possibility. The car will have a lot more F1 influences, especially aerodynamics and new materials. They admit the Enzo is too much function over form and they could have made it better looking.
They don't want to go down the bonkers BHP route... they're more interested in aerodynamics and centre of gravity."

I thought Enzo Ferrari once said something to the effect of "Aerodynamics are for those who cannot build engines"

Interesting.

So they're basically going to build a car that is 10x the price, 90% less production numbers?

Very interesting

I just read the thread you said and its not what the Autocar article say.
''Stradale'' said an Enzo LM but Autocar are talking about the Enzo successor.
To me... it looks like Ferrari are going with the same plan of the late 80's. (288, F40)
Both , the 288 and F40 have the same engine but in the F40 its a 2.9-3.0 L twin turbo V8 and in the 288 its a 2.8 L V8.

Now the Enzo and future supercar (F60?) will share engines with the Enzo.
Instead of being a 6.0 L , it will be a 6.5-6.8L.
It will have more power and the car will look different from the Enzo. They say maybe a 3-seater like the McLaren F1. This car should be out before 2010.

John,

Thank you very much for posting a larger photo. I think this is an awesome story and plays into another topic we are discussing on Ferrari's future.

In my first response I was responding having not read the article. You are 100% correct, two very different cars.

For the sake of discussion, I would have to disagree with the article about this being the last bang for super-cars. I'm still waiting for my first Star Wars like speeder that does 500MPH!

The Enzo LM is not planned for 2015, it's already being developed in the factory and has been discreetely offered to dealers with first rights of refusals to existing Enzo owners. Not second owners but those whose names appear on the factory list of first owners. It'll be 50 units and priced at Euro 1million.

The Maserati MC12 is a sell-out at Euro 700,000 and it's the hottest supercar on the market at the moment. It's better and faster than the Enzo! Premiums are "out of this world" if one is available. Ferrari cannot have the Enzo as "second" to the Maserati MC12. It has to have the "top of the line" supercar in the Ferrari-Maserati stable. Simple basic company marketing policy. Besides Ferrari has an eye for Production GT class for La Mans and waht better car to do that other than the Enzo LM. But it'll be a factory-supported privateer effort similar to the 575GTC project for the FIA GT series.

The Enzo and surprisingly the Maserati MC has been a complete success for Ferrari. The cars are being traded at unbelievable premiums. In contrast the Porsche Carrera GT is a "failure". New unit are being offered at Euro 360,000 to Euro 380,000, when the new car ordered from the factory will cost Euro 400,000 to 420,000 depending on market regions. So there are supercars and then there are Ferrari supercars.

Footnote: One friend bought the Enzo and the MC12 after taking delivery of his 612 Scaglietti in Maranello last December where he was guest of Jean Todt! Ha has also placed orders for the 430 (3 units for him and his friends). The irony is he sells Porsches!!!! And has a Carrrera GT in his garage.

Where have you heard of a Enzo GT?
In the article I posted...
Its writtten '' How do we evolve the direction of our supercars? In five years we have to have a new Enzo, but we have not yet decided what that special model is.''
They say in five years now will it be the Enzo GT or the Enzo replacement. I don't know.
Where they say 2015....they mean that Ferrari supercars around that time will be lighter, smaller and greener.

If I ever visit a place near you I will remember that ;)
And if I ever visit the factory I will remember your friend is a friend of Jean Todt ;)
He's the current Chairman of SIC (Sepang International Circuit). That's how they knew each other even before Jean Todt became Ferrari MD. :)
