I am not an owner (yet) but have been lurking on this message board for a couple of years now and am grateful for the information and camaraderie that is gained by this forum.

Anyways, the reason that I've finally registered for this forum is to ask about the experience of going to a Challenge race. In particular at Infineon. My son is still young, yet he is probably a bigger Ferrari enthusiast than me. We would love to see a Challenge race and we’re looking at May ’09 at Infineon Raceway.

As a spectator, what kind of experience should we expect? Being from Hawaii, the only other national racing even that I’ve attended was the Winston Finals at Pomona. Are there lots of other activities (i.e. vendor booths, kid’s activities, great food, etc)?

Thanks for your input.

Expect to have fun and see a bunch of Ferraris. I live in SF and have been to the track several times. Its nice because the garage/paddock backs up to the starting line but the doors are on the opposite side of the track so you can walk by and see everything. You can also get very close to the track on the last turn and at big events like IRL this is where the Ferrari club parks their cars.

Welcome to the site, mr1320.

I can tell you to bring ear plugs as it is very loud especially if the FXX cars are there.

You will see a ton of Ferrari's in the parking lot closest to the function, and that's always fun to walk the rows to see the differehnt models, years, and colors.

You will be able to walk through the garages to see the race cars which is quite informative.

It can be fun especially if the weather is great.

Make sure your kids don't touch the parked cars. Ferrari owners are fussy!

Fun

I live about four miles from Infineon. IF your in the area, let me know, I'll meet ya' there and take ya'll for a ride or two :)

There are several events at Infineon as FNA is big in the Bay Area. There is another event a bit earlier, but the challenge weekend is the better. You'll see old, new other, Italian exotics. I'll post some from the last event. You'll see F1's close up, I mean 1 foot away, and REVING. Check out the following links I have on Youtube for some quick and dirty movies we took over the last two events. Sorry, for the poor examples but I am not the best at this stuff.

GCalo, we'll have to finally meet for this :) we keep passing in the night :grin2:

Unusual Ferrari, racer types, arriving : Eye candy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNb_lwlAfJA&feature=related

Remember to keep you kids, hands on. You are THAT close to the action. They are careful, but you don't want to have some little one bounding about too fast...gotta be careful.

Thank you for the comments and info. Great pictures too! The event looks very impressive. I am really impressed with the classic models that are on display. I only exptected a showing of modern Ferrari's but I have a greater appreciation for the classics.

Granucci, I may take you up on that offer! I'll start looking for accomodations.

Thanks again!

You must be getting old.

Sending only T. Driving about the 456.

The lathe is still on its way to you in a box......if you don't get it, then still ok...Brian can keep it in the trunk.

BTW, IF you go to CHallenge, are you there alone or bringing others?

rik

I truck the cars to Brian: Your last comment seemed like you were saying I'm trucking the Ferraris to the Ferrari Challenge
