I have a 1980 Ferrari 308 GTSi and I keep hearing about the problems in 2nd gear...that the grinding will go away as the car warms up, but mine is just the opposite. It runs smooth when cold, but grinds throughout the rest of the day. I'm also told that synthetic oil will fix that as well...again, I've not found that to be the case. Any suggestions?

2nd Gear

Please see the post I just entered under "Classic Models". Your problem is unusual, but I have a possible answer. When I bought the synchro ring from GT Car Parts, they told me they have a bunch of used transmissions, and they all have worn blocker rings - on the inside. The inside grooves have worn off, so the O.D of the blocker ring hits the gear before the inside spins the gear up to speed. I wonder if yours works better when cold because the oil is thick enough to spin the gear first, but not when the oil warms up. Just a theory. -Steve
