I heard rumours they all could get some troubles. Ferrari Italy seems to want all Ferrari Clubs under their control. There will then only be room for owners and no enthousiasts. All official clothing should be in the way the factory wants it.

Don't think it will create goodwill and will be followed thru. But with an important public figure (Berlusconi) keeps reminding us of WWII I think Musselini is reincarnated...

Please, people at the factory: remind that merchandise is mainly bought by the ENTHOUSIAST and those are in larger numbers than the owners...

Well, that will split the Ferrari-community, the official and see me, I got a Ferrari people, and the enthusiasts, either with or without a Ferrari. Last sort will be a sort of drivingclub, with meetings and stuff.
How can the official clubs be forced to do so?

They cannot be forced, but strongly advised is a better word. If they do not comply, Ferrari is authorized to sue them for use of their official logo and brand name etc. Also, it won't be possible to arrange factory visits and the like I think.

But lets hope it doesnot come this far. Hope they will stay rumours!

FCA-Western Canada Region.

As for the new factory club rules, Ferrari has every right to do it, but if so, they'll p--- off many of the members, including yours truly. It was meant to harmonise the look of the logo/products (but in fact, every F Club has gotten the permission to use any of the parts of the Ferrari logo (horse, name, script font, etc... Has created unique and wonderful symbols of the clubs). What was involved went down to the smallest detail, including what type of clothes one should wear to a club event... Now they're telling us how to dress!?! Intruding too far in my opinion.

On the other hand, if one doesn't like it, they don't have to be a member. If many feel the same way it could lead to the forming of another club... "The cars from Maranello, Italy Club"

Every Ferrari Owners Club will obviously have their own crest or logos. With the Cavallino Ramparte of course. But permission must be sought from the factory before these crests can be used on the letterheads, shirts etc. And quite rightly so.

Ferrari Maranello need FOC to organise events, etc for the good of the members/owners so there is no way that they will try to upset the current arrangements.

However in Italy, every town have their own Ferrari Owners Club, no matter how small it is. There is no control over these clubs and there are many complaints by Luca that the clubs are not acting in the true aims and goals of Ferrari owners and that they should be brought under one umbrella body and run by Ferrari Owners Club Maranello whose president is a close friend of Luca. I was told of this by the secretary to the president of the FOC Maranello, when I was at Maranello for the Pilota Advanced Course in June 2002.

I also forgot to mention it is rumoured that Club Magazines will be banned and only one official Factory magazine will take it place. So no more Prancing Horses, Gli Amici's, Ferrari Club Belgio, Ferrari, Scuderia etc, etc.

So it will be all Forza's. That mag is completely taken over by the factory already. It is a Ferrari mag only, but I got to say that is shows a whole lot of Maserati's for a Ferrari-mag. The only thing I buy is Cavallino, and maybe I will subscribe for FML. All the other things are mainly factory-mags

If you don't mind my asking I'd like to know where you've heard these rumors. I find them to be total BS. Ferrari legally cannot just waltz in and shut down all the clubs and tell them to stop publishing magazines using the name "Ferrari" which will all know is an Italian sir name. They would have had to of already given the clubs the permission of using their trademark. If they didn't they will have a tuff time in court. Not to mention the fact that I'm not even use the Cavallino horse is trademarked.

Just checked

http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=tess&state=391cc8.1.1

Do a search, it's pretty cool. FCA has some trademarks.

Judge: "So for 50 years you allowed them to use it and never went after trademark infringements? So why are you all of a sudden doing it now? Case dismissed, you just lost your trademark."

A Ferrari seller told me that few years ago one of the Ferrari club in Rome organized a Ferrari meeting with some races. Organization as well as safety features were very poor and an accident occurred with injuries to the pubblic. Even though Ferrari as Factory was not involved, there were lot of legal concerns on this case and someone claimed that the Factory had in any case responsibility in the accident because the exibition was in the name of Ferrari.
Maybe this can explain, at least partially, Luca's concern on the fact the third party acts in the name of the Cavallino Rampante.

P.S. today, there are very very few local Ferrary Club in Italy, all of them strictly controlled by the FCI.

Well I was hoping to see if some members here were club members and wanted to help me try out a new forum project idea I had for these clubs. But I guess we got way off topic.

To continue off topic. My advice: never believe anything you hear about the law unless it is from a lawyer and your paying him. It is too complex and too often I hear false rumors, just makes that person look dumb. I'll admit I'm guilty of this too.

Sorry for the late reply, but I have some internet problems on my 'new' computer. Rumours I heard are from someone quite thrustworthy and a bit closer to the deal than I am. Hope they do not turn out to be true/in order. And Dirk... no Jos! ;-)
