Hey guys.
Any 550 owners out there. Put my foot flat , great power to 5 or6 k then flat.No power, like someone turned the fuel supply off. Motor sounds idles and rocks till 5 to 6 k. By 7k its so bad you just give up. Car is basically new 5000 miles on it with a major belt and so one service done already.
Ran the tank out and filled up at another shell station, drove 10 miles but still the same.
I know better but I am going to try change plugs tomorrow and give it a go, but I don't think it's that.
I was hoping it was crappy gas but hell my wifes car has no problems.
Other than that if I cannot find it does anyone know of a good place in Houston to get it checked out.
The Ferrari dealer didn't even call back so I guess I will have to find help elsewhere.

Yikes I haven't made 800 miles since I bought it. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Hey Andy, sorry to hear about your blues. Can't really help you unfortunately; my 550 pulls hardest beyond 5k rpm. It really doesn't sound like bad fuel to me, and I suppose you've already found that out.

I hope you can find a good specialist or dealer near you, they make all the difference.

I hope you find a fix soon, and it'd be great if you can keep us posted.

Best of luck!

Gents,
I'm not real familiar with the 12's. Makes it hard to help. here's some idea's. How does the rev limiter work? Is it software related? Can they be rebooted? If I'm hearing the story right, the power loss seem's to repeat at the same RPM all the time. What else happens at that RPM, is there a variable valve timimg thing? a fuel pump pressure booster? an EGR valve function? This could be as simple as a partially blocked fuel filter or as difficult as an electronics failure.

We are around F.I all day around here. I think it may be a fuel filter issue. My car sat around for 7 years been driven for 3900 miles. I think the system may be full of varnish. The new gas running through the tanks just loosening it up. Let's hope.
I will see if I can locate some filters today

Thanks

Andy,

You could be right that it needs to be cleaned out, 2 bottles of octane boost (not the cheap kind) and half a tank of gas should do the trick to clean everything out at 5K rpm until tank is almost empty. But…gas does not have a preference at rpm for cutting out. Either you have a clogged fuel filters that can’t handle the fuel volume or like Boxer said, the Engine Management System needs a reboot. Since rebooting doesn’t cost a thing to do, if I was you it would be the first thing on my list. A good Ferrari mechanic at any shop would do the same.

Keep us posted……
