hi guys

i know its a commonly asked (and subjective) question but....
im looking for a an exhaust which will be reasonably quiet at low revs but will have that distinctive ferrari high-pitched wail at higher revs when the car is being pushed harder.

my current (after-market) exhaust sounds nice above 4000 revs but is very boomy and noisy below 4000rpm which makes crawling thru traffic quite painful on the ears. i have heard there are some exhausts with valves which open up after a certain level of rpm is reached - are these any good?

Go back to the 355 OEM muffler then ...
Still have not figured out why people would want something else. the 355 sounds gorgeous with the stock exhaust, and not outrageous or overly loud, even with the vacuum valve stuck open.
Maybe you'll find a brave soul who wants to swap ?

actually i have the car's original OEM muffler and was thinking of putting it back on but was concerned the car wont sound quite so aggressive when being pushed hard with the OEM? are there valves on the OEM muffler?

Yes, there is a vacuum actuated valve on the OEM muffler (like the 550 and the 360 as well I believe), which you can also stick open if you want a slighty meatier note at low revs.
Car sounds gorgeous that way, especially if you have a spider or GTS.

The F355 OEM has a butterfly valve that activated by a vacuum switch, that opens the valve at 4,500 rpm and above. That's what gives it the sweet high pitch sound when the car is on full song. This unit is built-in in the tail pipe. If you're using Tubi then it'll be straight fit, remove your Tubi tailpipe and fit the OEM in it's place.
