I am looking to buy a late 308 GT4, some time in early '03. I know these aren't the most popular model, but there is something about the '70s wedges (GT4, Lotus Esprit/Excel/Eclat et al) that I cannot resist.

Having shortlisted a couple of cars locally, is there anything peculiar to this model I should be wary of? How easy are interior spares/trim/parts to get hold of? Can anybody recommend some independant specialists in the London area (I have been recommended Talacrest and QV Racing)?

Hi,

Like that car too! I am not a UK resident, so I can't recommend anyone. However, you might try Foskers at Brands Hatch. Does Talacrest still exists. If I remember correctly they were closed down not too long ago??? Or maybe restarted???

Here in North America, interior pieces would be hard to come by (if in fact at all). The only chances would be to dig through a parts car (and those aren't too easily found either).

I haven't used them yet, but I've heard many praises for the Ferrari Owner's Site. Once you purchase a GT4, sign up to the site (for owners only, you must submit S/N info to register...). I know of someone who was searching for over a year for one of the trunk carpet pieces. They never found one at any of the American suppliers. But with a few clicks of the mouse at the Owner's site he found it and bought it. It wasn't a reproduction either, it was packed in the original Ferrari plastic-wrap. Keep this in mind when you get your car...

Since you're in the UK, try Superformance (Unit 2, The Acorn Centre, Hainhault, Essex, IG6 3TU). Although I was on vacation there to tour and visit friends, I made a special trip to visit the place. Mike Elliott is an honest and down-to-earth guy. He calls it like he sees it. He's more of a parts supplier but does limited mechanical work (specialises in engine rebuilds and the sort). I bought many parts to rebuild my engine and is the best price from what I've searched. Keep this in mind too...

There's been previous discussions about purchasing GT4's on this site, call it up from the home page... Or email me if you have specific questions

Thats the same car that my Grandad had from new. I'll ask him if he can write down any general issues he had when he had the car. I should see him at the weekend or later next week. I'll post them on here for you.
