I was wondering if you guys use your Ferraris as your primary car. How's the reliablity, gas mileage, comfort, and sound? I know the tone of a Ferrari's Exhaust note is rather unique, but I could imagine it being annoying if I heard everyday.

Anybody take their Ferrari on a long road trip? Good experience or no? Also what model was it?

I am just wondering because I want a Ferrari 575M so bad, but I am not close to getting it anytime soon. I wonder how it would be to drive everyday in a Ferrari. I know I first I would love the attention, but I also know that I would get use to driving it everyday. Then it would be annoying to have people always attracted to the car.

Can anyone tell me if the exhaust sounds really loud from the interior of the car? I wouldn't want the exhaust to drown out the sound of the stereo system.

Well let me let you guys answer some of these questions. I'll ask more later. Thanks!

That's the whole point of getting a Ferrari.

Dialy driver

Hi,

i use currently a 550 as a daily-driver. The car is currently VERY dirty (salt, snow, mud etc...), and it looks great like that....i have to post some pics for that.
Concerning reliability etc, here a few things :
1. Fuel consumption is high, as one might expect, especially around town, where it's not that far from 50 Ltrs/100kms.
2. If you want a really quiet car, take a mercedes or a lexus...
3. in the 550/575 with regular exhaust, the sound is very cool from the inside, and not annoying at all.
4. For being reliable, i guess it's much better than the reputation, but still worse than many other cars :) But on the other hand, people tend to focus more on these problems in a Ferrari (or a Maserati) than on other makes. Porsches, mercedes etc. do blow engines as well, they do have electr-ic/-onic glitches as well, and they don't offer you an optional 8 years warranty....(at least not in Europe)
So overall, it's not only a matter (at least for the poorer owners like me) of money, it's also a matter of what you get for your money.
Do you *really* like cars ? If so, a Ferrari is worth the investment. You'll love it everyday.
Otherwise, unless you've got a huge pile of cash, and just want to pose, forget it and rent one.

I have a 456 GT and do not use it as a dialy driver but do know of several people who have. Issues are very similar to the ones gougoul has listed with the addition of more frequent expensive services and tire/rear shock replacements. Reliability actually seemed to improve vs those 456 GT's that did a lot of sitting.

In terms of long road trips, I have taken several different Ferrari's on trips over 1000 miles. Each time I throughly enjoyed it and only once had a problem.

Yeah I guess, but I am more interested in practical cars. I guess if the sound were too out of hand I wouldn't be able to stick with a Ferrari. Or I would find a way to deal with it.

Bart who is a regular poster here has a 550 Maranello as his only car. Talk with him
Does he post on here a lot? Is his screen name "Bart"?

It's nice to hear that someone really uses their Ferrari! Though I am sure everyone else won't let their Ferraris sit like model cars. Please gets some pictures too. That would be really nice to see a Ferrari dirty. I don't believe I have ever seen a dirty Ferrari.

It's funny you say that because I am mostly interested in Luxury Automobiles. Primarily Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. Anyone here know about Clublexus.com? Great messageboard. Also there's a Ferrari owner on there too. I think he also owns a Lexus GS 430. Not exactly sure though.

Glad to hear that the exhaust noise is not a problem during daily driving.

I would have to say that I *really* am into cars. I have been in love with automobiles since I was a little kid. I don't think this will change either. I am sure a Ferrari will be a worthy investment.

I would guess that the V12 would guzzle gas, but I'd rather burn that fuel on a Ferrari than some huge SUV.

Wow 1000 miles huh? I would definitely count that as a road trip. I would love to take a journey in a Ferrari....

Thanks for all of your responses!!! I can already imagine posting up here again with the topic title "I just purchased my first Ferrari!!!" :green:

Oh and also those daily drivers, how do you guys handle the looks and crowds that come around your Ferrari? Or do you like the attention?

Less than an hour ago, I return from a two-day trip to Las Vegas from Southern California in my 550. It is about 600 miles round trip. I only went over 100 mph in short burst but I got around 18-19 mpg. That ain’t bad folks!

The only problem I have ever had with my car was a water hose blew. No big thing but very annoying.

One nice thing about my 550 is I was able to park it next to the front entrance of the Paris Hotel. And I mean right next to the front door. It was not a marked parking space. It was interesting watching all the people admire the car when I was not in it.

Wow that is pretty cool. I am glad to here that people are not afraid to use their Ferraris. Many people I know look at a Ferrari owner and say "they never drive it anyways". And 18-19 mpg with V12 isn't bad at all. Also how long have you been driving your Ferrari 550 as a daily driver?

Well, i guess it's the sense of purpose that makes you love it. Unlike the V8s, the V12s (i mean front engined cars), are the real GTs, so they are meant to take some cross country high-speed blasts, whatever the weather....
I currently drive at around 200-220 Kmh under rain, it's still fun.

I will definitly shoot some pics before cleaning the beast again.
