What is the cheapest muffler I can get for a 78-308gtb that will bolt right up and look somewhat original when installed and the cover is replaced.Only my muffler is bad.Rest of system in good shape.Hate to order whole system.
Bruno, There is no "cheap" muffler that I am aware of to bolt up and fit as the orig.. Of course you know that there are the Tubis and other designs but they are not cheap. There is a Flow master muffer that has the same outlet and inlet ports as the orig. muffler but pipes have to be made to bolt up to your orig manifold pipes and then add pipes to the outlet side to come out the rear for your ext. to fit on. It ain't a "quickie" job I'm sure. Where is your muffler bad? Internally or rusting through from the outside can? You know it is a large can type and can be cut open at the top to repair a baffle or metal welded on the outside to repair a rust area.
It hhas been opened up before.it rattles inside now when you shake it.i get almost no exhaust from the passenger side when it is in place.i mean almost none at all.i suppose i can open it up again and see whats been done in there.
Bruno, I am sure you know that the right side of the exhaust has less pressure then the left. Simply because of the design and acute turns the pipes take before going into the muffler. To best see this look in your owners manual showing the exhaust. My 79 308 is the same way. I would open it up because it probably has a loose baffle inside rattling around. If you do let me know what you find.
Yes I know about the differences from the 2 sides. However this is giving me almost nothing.Stebro says they make a stainless freeflow that will bolt right up for $980.00. I think /i am going to get it.If it shows improvement I will open the old one up and take some pics of what is going on.I have noticed less and less from the passenger side since I've owned the car.I hate guessing but it does also rattle.I ran the car with no exhaust.sounds mean.I get perfect flow from each bank with no exhaust and no cats. Will keep you posted.Should be here by weekend.
