Black is one of the best colours for the BB, and Paul Newman is one of the best to care for yours, even if he still doesn't understand that the 365BB is the best Boxer.... :D

Congrats on your new baby, she looks fantastic.

Gorgeous black 512BB with tan interior! Looking forward to hearing your ownership experiences and seeing some more pics of this beauty!

I see in the latest issue of Forza that they reckon that the current market value in the US for a 365BB is about double that of the 512BB. Interesting given that until recently their values seemed to be evenly matched. Perhaps the relative scarcity and perceived purity of the 365BB accounts for this gap?

Either way I think that the BBs are amongst the most gorgeous beauties of all.

Congratulations. The car does look great in black, and the interior is classic. I also love the silver lids on the air boxes. I think that makes a big difference to the engine bay.

dspellbe, welcome to FL, and indeed your Boxer is superb.

In the future, if you ever redo the interior, consider this color of dark, reddish brown (hard to describe), but it was a perfect match to the outer black Ferrari that I saw years back in a showroom.

Thank you everyone for the great comments and nice welcome. I am researching more into the history of the car, as it seems it was in Italy & Canada for its entire life so far. I have asked Paul to post pictures as he starts the updating. This car has never been to the US, and has not been molested by the DOT & EPA requirements, and I plan to drive it, rather than make it a trailer queen.

Good to hear your BB will see plenty of street time. If you are in Florida, suggest considering upgrading the a/c, fusebox, and heat shielding the radiator pipes that run under the cabin.

My first Ferrari, got her 5 months ago. Been a dream car of mine since I was 7. She is being driven regularly, at least once a week, even though it is summer here in Australia. Was considering a modern Ferrari (430), but glad I got the boxer instead. Every drive in the boxer is special, it's an event in itself. So much character.

Cheers

Mark, welcome to FL, and a hearty congrats, what a car !!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Right decision there. Everything about the BB is an event, including the perseverance aspects.

That is a Ferrari that can be enjoyed simply viewing the metal in stasis.

You need to show us more !

Mark- Welcome. Very nice Boxer. I expect those to be the next "discovered" Ferrari currently way underpriced because of the Testarossa.

Jimmy and Taz,

Thanks for the nice comments. My favourite car of all time is actually the 246 Dino. I have had many opportunities to acquire one over the years for reasonable money but of course, I didn't. Seeing the way prices have been moving for the Dino over the last 2 years, I jumped into the Boxer when I found out that this one was for sale. They are quite rare over here in Australia. Rather irrationally, I did not even fly over to Melbourne (I live in Perth) to inspect the car. The mechanic I commissioned to perform the PPI basically laughed when I told him over the phone that I have never driven one in my life! Anyway, I negotiated a major service and belt change with the dealer and bought the car.

When the car was delivered, it was stuck on my driveway for a while because I did not even know how to engage the reverse gear! (too excited and not thinking straight). But the car is everything that I have expected and more. What an effort to drive, but what fun!

Jimmy,

Your collection is just amazing, it consists of every single one of my dream cars! I love reading your driving impressions. Actually I feel better about not inspecting and driving the car personally after reading about your exploits with some of your cars! Seems that everything turned out to be ok so far. Or maybe it is just luck?

Cheers

Mark- If it makes you feel better, that is the same way I bought all four of my Ferraris, except none of them had a PPI.

Mark, something about dark colors on BB that give the car a different impression, which I like a lot. You have a beautiful BB.

Driving BB is always a ritual, which I am sure you agree. IMHO, the design is sublime, beautiful and timeless. With that 12 behind your back, one can understand this was the flagship at the time. She is a much more mature, sophisticated beast than the spanky V6 Dino, which is probably closer to a motorbike in feel.

As for PPI, I am just an old dog that never learns. Could have been all luck, but I have had my shares of unpleasant surprises. To me, it is all part of the fun.

If Terry is like that, it makes me feel hundred times better. I am not a tinkerer myself nor do I profess to be even knowledgable enough to make decent comments on cars. Therefore, I only have myself to blame for my mistakes.

Sorry, back to your BB, interior shots would be nice for us to see ?

Get T shirt, shorts and mabye a small electric fan to keep yourself a tad comfortable in the summer heat ! Driving under extremes' part of the fun, if taken the right way. Enjoy !!! :steering wheel:

Gorgeous 512BB in black, congratulations! Out of interest there was a rhd black 512BB running around Johannesburg for many years, could it possibly have found its way across to Australia and into your hands? Drive in good health and enjoy! I can confirm that the BB driving experience is utterly addictive.

Jimmy and Taz,

Wow, I definitely feel much much better knowing that I'm not alone in the way I went about buying my car. Jimmy, t-shirt and shorts is exactly what I'm in when driving her, have to go look for one of those dash mounted electric fans though!

I'll take some interior and the obligatory flat 12 shots this weekend.

David,

This car was delivered new to Australia. Basically one owner from new as far as I'm told. Was sold to a friend, but kept in the original owners garage. Was then subsequently bought back by the original owner who kept it until it was traded in for a newer model 5 months ago.

I've been following the restoration of your 365bb, it is going to be a real beauty when it is finally done. I don't think I have your patience, but then I don't have a 550 to play with while waiting!

Cheers

What a terrific history your 512BB has, Mark!

Indeed the bluebird has made me learn the art of patience. Just as well. My understanding specialist is taking his time to check everything thoroughly on the 365BB as we bring her slowly back to life as my cash flow permits. I am smitten with both for totally different reasons.

Looking forward to more pics of your beauty and to enjoying the thrill of ownership with you.
