Congratulations David, a perfect result for both you & Onno. I look forward to reading all about your restoration and to seeing her looking resplendent on a future FLED.

I'll bet anything that you cant stop smiling, enjoy the moment!
Thanks Peter! When Onno and I shook hands, we did so as gentlemen on a win-win basis, using this opportunity to grow our friendship rather than hurt it. Onno is a man of his word and is a good friend of mine. I am still on cloud nine that this Boxer is in my care!

David, congratulations !!! Knowing how much you think of 365BB, you are going to stay up there in the cloud for a while, right ?

How did I miss this thread, sorry. I am kinda taken up and involved in a little storm of my own.

Great to hear that you have realized your longing and that your beautiful relationship with this BB is starting. Of course, not to forget, our acolade to Onno for what he is made of.

Congratulations again.

Many thanks Jimmy! I hope that your storm winds down to the deep joy, peace and calm when you secure your dream Ferrari that I feel now that I have secured mine. Holding thumbs for you! If you secure the tipo in Europe, perhaps an idea to keep in Europe for FLED 7 before shipping her to Japan...

Indeed hats off to Onno who has proven to be made of the right stuff, and to be a good friend. We have just transferred the BB into my name and enjoyed a glass of Prosecco in the sun to celebrate our friendship and good fortune.

David- I have seen Boxers with gold rims but am pretty sure they did not come from the factory that way. Personally, I would not do that except to a spare set of rims, but it is your car. Many of the 4.4 liter BBs were fitted with 9" wheels from the 512 BB, too. Since half the Daytonas have 9" rear wheels, that should not be any problem except at a concourse and will help tame some of the roll oversteer.

Thanks Terry, if they did not come from the factory with gold rims, then I will not redo mine in gold. A pity as a 1970's Ferrari looks so cool with the gold rims as per the Ferrari F1 and sport prototypes of that period.
Interesting about the 9" rear rims. I thought that they were standard on the 512BB and retro-fitted to the Daytona and 365BB.

Do you have a copy of the BB book?
Which book would that be, Boxer? I would be keen to purchase a copy, to keep me fired up during the long Winter nights while I wait for my BB to be brought back out of her long sleep.

Could be either Mel Nichols' book or Nathan Beehl's book. I mentioned to you that you should order Nathan's book in the limited edition and ask him to sign it. He did it for my copy! Here's his website.

Congratulations David, great to see another BB in the hands of a caring owner planning to restore and drive it as it was intended. I am sure you will love it. I have Nathan's book and think it is a must have for BB owners. Didn't know about the signed limited edition option - which sounds very cool. Look forward to hearing about the restoration progress. All the best. Sean

Thanks Onno, just ordered Nathan's limited edition and asked him to sign it!

Have also ordered Krasnavian's book and asked him to sign it. In addition to my signed Hans Metzger book (father of 911, 917 and TAG turbo engines amongst others), I am building up a small collection of first edition signed books.

Thank you Sean! I am thrilled to be caretaker to this 365BB. Wonder what plans there are for the 40th BB anniversary next year...Would be great to have mine up and running by then!

David- The 9" wheels on the Daytona and on the 4.4 liter BB are all retrofits, except for some competition Daytonas. Both came standard with 7.5" wheels F&R.

+1, it was Nathan's book that I was referring to.
Fantastic book, although I do have to say that there was a lot more to say on the road-going versions than there is in the book. Nathan chose to concentrate on the racing cars (also extremely interesting of course).

But to me there is definitely room for a 3rd book on the Boxer, one that plugs the gaps of the Nichols' and Beehl' books.

And no, I'm not going to be writing it! :)

My 512BB

I am excited to show off my new purchase and introduce myself to FL. I see this thread has been dormant, so maybe this will help revive interest. The car is currently at Paul Newman's for care, tires and the proper steering wheel. Hopefully, will have it here in Florida soon to enjoy it.

Welcome to Ferrari Life. Very nice 512 BB. Only 2400 BBs out there, so that cuts down on the traffic in this thread. Looks like they are starting to rapidly appreciate here in the States.

Fun and challenging to drive is about all you can ask for in a Ferrari. Still remember drooling over the original prototype BB at the LA Auto Show back in the early 70s. Pretty much looked just like the production model.
