today i got home and cranked up my 79' 400i GT it had dropped a bit of oil underneath which i thought was normal so i got in and took it on the freeway
it began billowing smoke from the right set of tailpipes and then from the grate in the bonnet a tiny oil slick began forming on the windscreen so i got of and tried to head home but on the way the oil pressure dropped and the engine cut out. so i had to roll start and and head home quick before the v12 ceased

Ouch! That's not good. Keep us posted on what you find. Probably an oil cooler hose with a hole in it.

Oil Leak

The good news is that you probably didn't run out of oil, on account of that car holds 17 quarts !! Biggest oil pan I've ever seen. It also has two oil filters. Let us know what you find. -Steve
