Yes, I turn the engine off with the car in Neutral, then I put it into first gear and set the parking brake. Starting up, I put in it into neutral and engage the clutch, then I turn the key to fire it up.
I just put my right foot down, start it in gear and hang on!
Just kidding, I always put it in neutral, depress the clutch and then start it. I don't bother putting it in neutral to stop it. I usually just push in the clutch, shut it off, and then put it in reverse. I've always put all my cars into reverse when parked. Any reason why 1st would be preferred?
