Well, it has been awhile since I have posted my views on the 550 Maranello. I have had mine for almost three years. It just came back from three weeks in the shop. The interior had to be redone. Today, I was able to put some miles on it in the Southern California rain.

The beast is parked in its spot in my garage. It may seem stupid but each time I go out to the refrigerator in the garage I look at the beast. Good heavens, is it beautiful. Not only that but it is so nice to ride in. Of course, when I put my foot to the floor, my neck snaps back and the G forces are applied to my body. Can everyone please tell me about any car which can be compared to a Maranello? No, I do not think there is any production car, which can be anything but a shadow of the Maranello.

I realize I am but an old twentieth century man. The true Maranello is a twentieth century car. There may be cars with NO2, turbo, superchargers, and other things but my sweet little beast is just a nature-aspirated engine, which goes rather quickly. My top end is over 200 mph and my balls are not big enough for anything about 175 mph. The mark of a fine car is how smooth it is. I spit on those rough engines of minor league cars.

The Maranello is THE true gentleman’s Grand Touring Car bar none.

ps: I have been known to kiss my thing.

Bart, did you have to redo your interior due to the plastic items becoming sticky. I just got my second 550 (a silver 2000 model) and I have found most of the plastic items on the dash and center console have just deteriorated to the point of turning my fingers black. Other then that the 550 is one of my favorites.

fhp...

I don't really know how a 550 drives without fhp, but it's a gem with.
The car feels like a bulletproof go-kart or so, it's really great.
The sound of the brakes is annoying, but they work well, so they're forgiven.

I'll do my best to post the long promised pics of my dirty 550 (i cleaned it in the meantime), but i went on holiday to India, so i had no time (now imagine that on holiday...) to do it.

Brakes....

Well,

with FHP they squeak like hell, but they shave speed off in a pretty decent way.
So around town everybody seems to think poor guy, at least maintain your car, but once the road is wide open, the 550 eats them dead :-D

From what i heard, the material used on FHP makes them skeak.
I had as well everything cleaned polished etc. Solved the issue for 500 kms, and then it came back...
