What is an FN number?

Just so you know, there were about a dozen 575Ms built before this very late 550, starting with three prototypes 123761, 123764, and 123765.

Hi there

Here is my 550.

It’s an unusual 550 and has a lots and lots of extra options from Ferrari’s Carrozzeria Scaglietti programme chosen by Michael Schumacher. (See photo from Ferrari’s brochure below).

However - it’s immaculate and a joy to own and drive.

It is at present in London UK.
# 113162

I’ve seen a few with extra options - but only 3 in total with ‘full’ specifications like this. No RHD cars were made apparently.

(Factory ...... full carbon race seats, carbon dash, door sills, leather clad roll bar, leather clad fire extinguisher, 4 point race harness, F50 carbon gear shifter, carbon center tunnel .... etc etc - unusual spec for a car of its its age).

Similar spec ..... I’ve only ever seen Ferrari’s own car on the 1998 stand and one in Sweden originally owned by the head of the Swedish Cart Team.

I’d love to know if there are others.

Please give me a shout if you know of any.

Ferrari Headquarters/Dealers haven’t given anything away despite me asking. They either don’t know or say they don’t give out information - which is fair I guess.

Cheers R.

Ps

Strangely the chassis numbers of the 3 cars are very close.

We believe these early cars are the cars that the later 39 WSR cars were based on.

I’ve seen cars with a couple of extras. And even a 550 with components from a crashed 575 added (which was confusing). Plus cars with badges from eBay stuck on the dash - which confuses things even further.

My 2001 is similar with the same carbon package, except with comfort Daytona seats with carbon accents. I wish I had your sport seats, they look amazing. I have only seen a few others with the carbon package, and yours is only the second one I have seen with carbon+sport seats. Congrats, you found a very cool spec.

Thanks guys.

Yes - It has a lot of extras. About 10 I found out about myself.

However I keep finding more. (ie I didn’t realise they don’t all come with a huge box of service manuals - it seems overkill).

It also has the Fiorano Hanling Package and an extra wheel factory fitted into the boot (trunk) with a jack.

Which is strange.

It was being looked at by a judge at the FO Club concours and he pointed out it had a factory race exhaust. And something different about the engine - however he didn’t explain.

I had no idea. I’m no expert.

By the way, is your build number close to 113162 ?

I’m trying to work out if ferrari made a few together for a ‘Special Client’.

That Client then chose the one they wanted and the others were offered to other ‘special clients’.

The chap at the FOC said it was the only explanation for their chassis numbers to be nearly sequential.

Which kind of makes sense. But could also just be a fluke - or rumour.

My build number is much lower, 40658. Your find is becoming even more intriguing, very cool spec. Almost like the Challenge version of the 550. Did the judge mention which part of the exhaust was upgraded? I am not aware of equal length headers made for these cars back then, but that would be interesting to check. I could see Michael Schumacher asking for them to get that V12 F1 howl.

Hi there.

I absolutely love TDF blue. What a beautiful car.

The judges (there were 3) were intrigued (just like me).

I’m at the London Classic Car Show this week at the huge Olympia Arena in London.

My car is on show (FOC Stand) so I’ll grab everybody who looks like an expert and ask them.

Cheers Ralph

401rpg - I assume you race your F355 - in the FOC series?

I joined the FOC in 1985 when I was in London for the American Bar Assoc annual meeting. A friend invited me to the Club's Shelsey Walsh Hillclimb immediately following. So I joined. And right after that we attended the British G.P. at Silverstone.

Way back in 1960 I held an F.I.A. International License for Competitor and Driver issued by the R.A.C. in Whitehall. By means of which I was able to race my Porsche Super 90 at the Autodrome de Linas-Montlhery during the year+ that I lived in Paris.

So-o long ago............

P.S. NB we are both fond of blu TdF - see my signature line below
