456 Targa Conversion ?

1981 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Boxer
Is it possible and/or practical to convert a 456 GT to a GTS (i.e. Targa) ? Would this be easier than a convertible conversion ? Any advice would be appreciated. Boxer 42

I think it is easier since the car will stay more rigid, and therefore won't need any extra strengthening. I do not know about regulation, but maybe a comvertible conversion gives more problems with the law than a GTS?

I believe you still need to strengthen the wind-shield/screen. In a coupe there is a support bar going across the top just above the door. But on GTS they don't have the bar. Also you will have to remove the frame on the windows (assuming the 456 has them).

Look in the video section with Kinnie's 456 stripped. Could give you an idea or two.
I think if you take it to a specialist coach builder, they will be able to tell you exactly what you need to know. The 456 would make a nice convertible !
Can you recommend any coach builders in the UK who would be able to do the Targa Conversion ? As the windows are frameless (as per the F 355 GTS), this should make it easier. Boxer 42
