i have a 2001 360 spider. certain times I start the car it miss-fires, Runs but miss fires. Dosen't happen all the time. I was told that I need to bring to Ferrari Dealer for computer Update. They take the chip out of the car, send to Ferrari USA. They update the software. Put it back in and off I go. Has anyone heard of this, and if so Is there a charge for this?::wall:

IF car still under warranty [doubtful, but very possible for this problem] then probably no charge.
BUT, having someone say they are shipping it off to Italy doesn't sound correct for FNA. Plenty of places to do it here, but then again, might be just as fast for a NY minute.

Are they already saying this as THE solution after the OBDIII diagnosis?

IF so, then perhaps...I'm sure we'll hear about that, but

IF NOT then I don't understand their solution...misfiring can be caused by a few things especially on a modified setup.

Is yours modified or all stock?

I'd get to a qualified dealer, run an OBD on it and find out what's going on in there.

The chip needs to be sent to Ferrari North America (I think in NJ). I had the car serviced at a highly respected company on Long Island. They did the test and spoke to Ferrari of LI mechanic to diagnose the problem. They are very sure that they have it nailed down. By the way the car does have a TUBI exhaust system. Do you think I should advise them to check something else?

did you update your post, 'cause I swore I saw Italy in that post...then again I'm old.

Tubi would make no big difference to the turnover, but could if done very wrong, which I sort of doubt. Cat are what I'm thinking or straight pipes, but even then....

I was also thinking of new plug wires, for the intermitant problem, or moisture in there..etc.
My 456 has 'sometimes' an occasional prob. but I know there are needs to replace the connectors plugins soon as my mech states they 'are a gettin there' Cost to replace is very low, about $200 or so IIRC...shoot I should be able to do most of them.

guessing your mech knows, they should be able to tell you that cost is free or not.

waiting for Greg to chime in...ring GCALO

Sorry I just saw this.

A little skeptical on this. A dealer should be able to update an ECU.

Can you please provide more details as to what was happening just before this started?

It's possible you are experiencing a problem with the Mass Air Flow Sensors (MAF's).

You could have a cracked or broken spark plug or bad plug coil.

Give me a bit more to go on. Give me a bit of detail.
