I have been considering my first Ferrari purchase and am leaning toward a 1999 355Spider with a gated shift. I am competant enough to complete mid-level maintenance but I have found several sources claiming this is not a do-it-yourself model and must be serviced at the dealer due to extensive electronics and the specialized equipment required.

What are the approximate operating costs of a 355, assuming semi-agressive driving and ~7,000 miles/year? Not looking for tires, oil, etc, but in-shop maintenance.

My experiences:
The regular maintenance once per year will costs you between $500- $1000.
Take into account the big bang once per three years when the timing belts should be changed which is a enige-out job. That could be around $3000 and over $5000 if some additional things require replacement.
Although there are several opinions about this timing belt issue. Once per 5 years for the brave and some claim they can change the belts without removing the enige, I stick to the 1 per 3 years rule.

Other from that:the 355 is an absolute dream to drive and enjoy.
