I bought some window motors from George Evans of Evans Automotive. http://www.evansauto.com/
They are more powerful than the stock motors and the price is reasonable.

He sent me these installation instructions which are actually quite good. I have saved them on disc but didn't want to take a chance on losing them so I have been saving them in my email. Well, they have been taking up space in my email so I thought I would post them here.

nice, maybe it can be used as monthly article, we need more things like this. Simple with pics so people can try it themselves very easily

Dr.Bob. On the MR2 site I belong to we have a DIY (Do it yourself) area. You might want to think about something like this being a Sticky in such an area.

There are tens if not hundreds of these kinds of general mantanence and fixes posted on that site. They have helped me save hundreds of dollars and also helped me advise people on this site. I'd highly reccomend some thing along these lines.

Check the site out if you like. Much younger group. 75% are under the age of 25. I'm one of the old guys at 37. Total membership is about 7,800.

The reason I did not submit it as a tech tip is because it is not my work. It was sent to me by George Evans whom I bought the window motors from.

He doesn't even know his instructions are posted here but I doubt he'd mind seeing as how I gave him full credit and even posted the link so other owners can buy the motors also.

Hi I'm PCJ, I have a 1976 308 GTB Fiberglass and am having trouble getting the cables to wrap in the grooves. Any ideas or help would be appreciated, thanks

Gee, that was a while ago. It was a pain in the butt but I don't remember anything extremely tough. The instructions said to use zip ties to prevent the cables from unwrapping. I guess yours unwrapped?

You may want to take the other door apart and see how it is supposed to look.

Just completed this job myself, unfortunately had no instructions so had to learn all of this the hard way. I carefully re-wrapped the cables then used a bolt, washers, and a nut to clamp the cables together for instalation, this holds the cable in place on the drive pulley/drum. I then routed the cable on the door pulleys until the last pulley, held the cable tight and removed the bolt that clamped the cables together, and then routed the cable on to the last pulley. I did not replace motors just cleaned and greased everything and the window works much better, not fast, just better. Be very careful when winding the cable on the drive drum not to cross the cable as it winds and retracts, it will bind and possibly brreak something. Good luck.

moving articles to DIY

Hi Andrew, when a article is moved to the DIY section, is that article considered for use in the new DIY Book? Does the contributor have to do anything?

Great idea! Frankly I wish you could find such instructions for any car! Those pics etc look quite good.

the pictures you posted were extremely helpful. my cable jumped it's track possibly due to stretch and bumpy roads. thought I might have a bad motor but in the end it was the pics that finally helped me figure the lay-out. Thanx, you are one of the good guys.
