Its the bushing on the right side. If you take away the rubber hose you see the bushing is worn out for at least 2 mm.
Is this an steering rack from Ferrari or can it be replace by some other brand?

The bushings can be changed and there are upgrades available. I thought TRutlands had a kit for rebuilding these racks.
Jeff or Mark at FerrariUK may be able to offer a bushing kit also.

As far as I know, it's a specific Ferrari part (not made by them, but is unique to them).

I'm looking through my GT4 parts catalogue and unfortunately, they don't list internal parts available for the rack. The rack is listed as one part number (GT4 = 104498). It shouldn't stop you though from inquiring about the bushings with either T.Rutlands, or Ferrari of UK...

Hello everybody,

Big surprise; i found out that the steering rack is the same as in................a mini cooper !!!!!!
They even suplly service kits to recondition it.

So for all 308-328 owners, write it in your memory.

I let you know how it works out to rebuild the rack.

I found out from another source that the rack DESIGN and FABRICATOR is by the same source but the RATIO is different. To my knowledge the ratio is quicker in the mini rack. Installing one in a 308 would raise the low speed steering effort even higher than it is now!

Ferrari didn't actually buy up a bunch of old mini racks to use on the 308 but found the design was adequate for the 308 and contracted to have them built in the '70's with Ferrari specified ratios.

Sorry for the bad news. I was ready to buy one myself.

You are right about the ratio, you can not mount a rack from the mini because of different ratio but the good news is that you can get an revision set from the rack from the mini cooper and with this set you can repair the rack from a 308..

I keep you informed abaut the result and will make some photo's

Isn't it amazing that a component built for a cheap 50HP 700 kg car with little 10" x 3.5" wheels (early Minis) could also handle the cornering stresses of a big 250HP Ferrari with fat sticky tyres.
