Just bought a 308 GTSi

Hi all
After owning a series 2 308 GT4 about 10 yrs ago I have taken the plunge and bought a 1982 UK 308 GTSi.
All things going well it should be picked up from Neath (wales) today and taken to southampton for the long trip downunder to Melbourne,Australia.
Can't wait to get my hands dirty!!
Cheers

Hi

I've had my 77 308gtb fibreglass for a couple of months now. In the last two weeks it's enjoyed a couple of 150 mile drives and worked well.

Still learning how to best drive it!

1978 308gts

Hello, I have a 1978 308GTS. Very original, right down to the laquer-checking white paint! The car is sporting 15's but I do have the original wheels put away. Very few white carb cars with blue carpet and red leather. All smog still intact and functioning. It has to be to pass local smog laws. 68,000 miles and still running strong.

Drive them, don't hide them!

Not for the purist, but what I like. Mods, custom grill, wheels, painted targa and spoiler. Everything can be restored to original in a few hours, have all the original parts.

My car was delivered to Annette Holheiser in Dusseldorf Germany on 9 July 1981.

It was imported into South Africa a year later.

I have a question about the 308. There are two styles of vents on the rear section - one style where the vents wrap around a raised section in a horse shoe shape and the other, like mine where there are two separate vents. Does anyone know when which vents are from which years?

Also, my car has a mesh "guard" in the scoops on the doors/quarter panel. Someone said that this was correct for a German spec car. Does anyone have any info on this?

Kind regards

Mike

You have the euro version of the 308. It is 287 lbs. lighter than the US version, has a higher compression ratio, recessed bumpers and does 0-60 in 5.9, whereas the US version goes 0-60 in 7.4. Congratulations!

To elaborate on Branko's answer, the horse shoe arrangement of vents is for cars with catalysts to let the extra heat escape. (i.e., federal cars) I, too, have heard or read somewhere that the wire mesh in the scoops is a German spec thing -- some regulation about the size of holes that can be in the body for the sake of objects flying in. :)
