trying to remove the oil pan on this 'ol 308 en route to resealing the pesky oil leak where the shifter control rod penetrates the block.

when much to my suprize, after removing all the pan bolts the pan will not come off!!!

anyone know what keeps the pan from dropping more than 1/2 inch - and what to do about it???

I just did this job 3 weeks ago......
1) Remove the oil temp sender from rear of sump.
2) Remove large pinch nut (27mm?) from dip stick tube at bottom,
once dipstick tube is removed, stick your finger in the hole
and pull out the extension.
You can then wiggle the sump off.
