Hey IM new to this board, might have seen me post a couple times before.

I was inquiring about 308 maintanence. I know if you're gonna buy a ferrari you shouldnt ask about amintanence and such because you should be able to afford it. but im just wondering how much does the average like 30k maintenence run on a 308? I'm guessing 5-6k, is that right? i saw in another thread that it doesnt have to get the engine removed and such to change the belts. I fell in love with the 308 from magnum P.I. (im sure like most people did) and the only other ferraris I love are the 348 and testerossa which are both out of my price range.

thanks in advance

Adam,

Welcome aboard! As for the 30k/60k/90k service, plan on 4k or so. IF you want a TRULY "fine toothed comb" service with changing of all water/oil/gas lines and other bearings plan on 6k or more. Personally, these cars are now DECADES old and i feel it is best to change as many hoses and bearing as you can afford at this time as once they are in there, the added labor is small as they have the engine already exposed.

Just my humble 2 Yen.

so thats really it? no other major issues i should look into other than, serviced by ferrari, oil religiously changed and stuff?
Depends on the year 308. Pre-1984 can suffer rust at the door sills, at the lower right corner of the passenger side louver (opposite the fuel intake side) and other spots.

Also, you have suspension bushings that may need changing. How about the lights... are the lenses dull and need cleaning or replacement? And that RUBBISH stock fuse box... BLECH!!!!! Spend about $50 and a few hours and change that stock fuse box out!

Hmm... what else? <thinking>

<scratching head>

<looking through my maintenance records dating back to 1987>

How is the clutch wear?

Have the brakes been rebuilt recently? How much life is left in the rotors? Does it have the better steel braided brake lines (Goodridge or the like)?

Oh yes, i could go on.

DO NOT WORRY as the 308 is a GREAT design and the later year models are nearly bullet proof provided they are properly maintained. Call me a guy who believe in leaving NO stone unturned. So yes, i have mentioned A LOT here, yet it all depends on your finances and desires.

Dare i mention replacing the crap Koni shocks and lackluster springs for MUCH better modern alternatives (for the nice sum of over +$2.5k once you include parts/labor). How about some REAL stopping power and dump the stock brakes/rotors for Brembo or the like? The stock seats are horrid things and do you REALLY trust your life to DECADES OLD seat belts??? Try Sparco seats and Schroth asm 4/5-way harness.

Did i mention i could go on and on?

Basically, just a "simple major service" will do for most folks." Alas, i am not like most folks

Shhhhhhhh, that's my NEXT upgrade ;-)

JUST spent about $7k in the past 48 hours for new rims (Kinesis K27), tires (Mich P2), brakes/rotors (Brembo), and pads.

Would love to go CF for those HEAVY doors, but that would compromise the safety :(

safety? there are some things you dont want to live through if you're going that fast :D. brembo, drilled im hoping? my dad had a pair on the front of his Z3, and it stopped on the dime.

Still deciding, yet i think drilled are standard. Also looking into modding the deep front air dam for better brake cooling :)

JUST had a revelation! For track days i DUMP the fog lights and use custom made air intakes routed to cool the brakes. This KEEPS the car "stock" with fogs for normal driving and mods it for track days while also leaving the stock aero package as is

interesting, make sure they're drilled, dont want to get jipped. modding the front intakes for better braking? thats hardcore, i dont know many people with that on their list of mods to do. and yet i saw an all carbon fiber civic. (waste of cf if you ask me.) do they make intakes and headers for ferrari's? do they have a tuner like mercedes has AMG, and BMW has dinnen?

 <---- me :) Of course i mean for better brake cooling.

No real "tuner" parts off the shelf for the 308 any longer. The car is "too old" for tuners to consider making parts for it. While some DID make parts in the past when the car was new, that was long ago. Still, i have a feeling once the 308 enters the "historic" category we may see things pick up a bit :)
