Following up on the discussion on 3 seat cockpits, could one be built on an early Testarossa chassis (assuming a car that had heavy body damage but the chassis and engine where fine) ?

I believe several one of a kind Ferraris were created for the Sultan of Brunei using a TR engine and chassis in the early 90's.

The positives I see on using the TR as a donor would be wide & long wheel base, & Flat 12 mid engine, fewer electronics vs later versions

The negative:, cost, .....

Opinions ???

This is just my opinion here but I would think that if a TR had suffered that much body damage, then the chassis would have suffered as well; ie if it had been hit broadside, the chassis would have been bent.

I could be wrong though.

I think it could be done. Some major fabrication would be needed and are you keeping in of the existing Testarossa body? What I mean is, do you want the final product to be a TR with 3 seats?

If so the harder part will be relocating the steering column. I think the car is certainly wide enough but the doors will also have to hallowed out on the inside to accomodate the shoulders of the passengers riding in these seats.

Is this a project you are considering?

An interesting concept! Do you think this would hurt or help the value of the car?

I think if the conversion is done with all or mostly Ferrari parts it could raise the value. To bad we don't have enough money to tell Pininfarina and Ferrari to make it for us the way the Sultin does.

To qualify, the assumption is that you could find a solid TR chassis and engine with the body being a write off. The new "3 Sedili Europa" would use a newly fabricated body. My guess is that the 365P would be used as a design guide.

Agree, the hard parts are going to be relocating the steering column, pedals, and gearshift.

It is not a project I am actively considering. Perhaps when I have a lot more time and money....
