Scrolling down the "Supercar-Thread", it almost looks like the 288 GTO has been forgotten. I understand that most of us have a strong personal opinion for the F40 and F50, some few had a chance to have a ride on them and very few own or owned one.

In respect to the 288 GTO, all said above has to be calibrated down to even lower levels. Is there anybody outthere who could provide some informations, experiences and impressions of driving and/or owning a 288 GTO ?

Anyway what are your personal thoughts/opinion about the 288 GTO ?

I just think it's one of the meanest looking "modern" Ferraris.
When looking at it, It seems to scream: "SPEED AND GRAB!"
If it wasn't turbocharged, I would love to drive one.

I doubt I'll ever have the opportunity to drive or own one, but I have seen and heard several at various events over the years.
It looks like a 308 versus the incredible hulk. That is a compliment by the way Although it is extremely aggressive looking the F40 still has more in the way of supercar looks. However, without the 288 GTO, would there have been an F40? It certainly deserves its place in Ferrari history. However, if I had the money to buy a supercar, the F40 would be my only choice.

Its the ONLY Ferrari ever built I would own ahead of my 348.

Last one I saw was at the 2007 concours. I didn't go the the 2008, but Boxer and T1fs photos show there were two there this year

3 in the flesh (I need to get out more!). I think it is drop-dead gorgeous and would be No1 in my personal supercar acquisition list, followed by F50, F40 and Enzo.

I've only seen one in a Ferrari store in Geneva, when I was there for X-mas in 2007.

It's just SO good looking, sexy yet very muscular and agressive

But like so many others, it's not 1st in my list because the F40 is just too perfect to be beaten

No driving experience here either. Alas!

My opinion: a stupendous machine! It is top of my list for the supercars - just drop-dead gorgeous. The others are more impressive, but if I owned a 288 my favourite evening past-time would parking it in a sunset and staring at it while sipping G&T's.

I've seen about 6 or so, I think. My specialist sold 3 of them in the space of a couple of weeks last year.

Personally I quite like the design. Performance wise the F40 is the better car but the 288 GTO is still terrifically impressive. The 288 GTO is definitely the easier to live with as it has a more civilized cockpit. Given the choice between a 288 GTO and an Enzo, I would much rather have the former.

actually there were 3 288 gto ,s at this years concours with a 4th entry as a no show , pretty good turnout for a little island called uk , seen about 12 - 15 different 288 gto,s in the uk over the past 20 years !! and had the oportunity to get a ride in one , wow what an amazing machine with one of the best sounding exhausts ever (megaphone style) , definately top of my wish list .........

Agree with you, not a bad turn out for a small cold and wet island in the northern Atlantic. I wonder if anyone has ever bothered to work out how many Ferrari's there are per square mile in the UK, and how it compares to other countries? I should think Belgium, Holland and Switzerland would do pretty well too.

The 2 288 GTOs at the 2008 FOC underwater concours did look very impressive. Both were in outstanding condition. Lovely cars.
