The Italian police have a Lambo now. There was an article on it in last Friday's European Herald Tribune. Basically they stated exactly that, people enjoy getting caught by it ! I think our friends in Maranello missed a great marketing opportunity...... perhaps with the 430 coming out next year this will be recified.

Ferrari doesn't bother anymore. They can't even meet their backlog of orders and more publicity will only make their delivery even worse. To give you an example the order for the 430 is already 15 units in KL, even before the car was road tested. Malaysia is a small market. Now that it got rave reviews, can you imagine the que?

The GTE mentioned above is 3999GT. Two black GTE's went to the Italian police for driver training (during which one was destroyed). The sole remaining car, chassis 3999 GT, was subsequently used by the Rome Flying Squad over the next ten years before retiring from duty in 1973.A top italian cop kept this one as a professional car. Subsequently it was sold to a collector.
But a second 250 GTE is made in that livery: 2293GT. This car owned by GTO engineering is an exact copy of the original one, one small detail differs to 3999GT: the phone number printed on the side is that one of GTO engineering. It has register plate:UXG774 (UK.)

and well the original cop car still excist and is still in Italy.
the owner takes it on drives now and then, and even the sirene still works
officially that is illegal, but the cops seem to like the car.

and yes they have a Lambo Gallardo now as a cop car
i posted something funny about that car in the Lounge area, look for a topic called: The funniest thing has happened  :green:

Stradale, See your point, perhaps another way of achieving the same publicity goal would be for the factory to buy back a couple of F355's or 360's, overhaul them, and gift them to select police forces around the world. Message would be - even a 10 year old Ferrari can still catch 99.9% of the cars out there....
