excellent condition

Very nice pictures. I can see by both these pictures and your post in the tech section that you take care of your Ferrari. That is good to do, I've seen some that do not respect Ferraris as much as they should.

Youre damn right peter takes car of his ferrari, he just completed a rebuild of it. I've seen some of them, but peter, why dont you post more here of the rebuild so we can all see what they look like apart. Let me just complement you on the car, it looks great. I love the job Bertone did stylinh it. Do you know why ferrari chose them over pininfarina? ive always wondered that.

Tim, its a long story, you see, this car in the beginning was never meant to be a Ferrari....

At the dawn of the '70's, Fiat were planning to replace their Fiat Dino Coupe (2.4L V-6, Bertone-design). Since Ferrari were using Fiat to build the V-6 engines (in the beginning with the 206, to get into 2 litre-based formula racing), this close tie between Fiat and Ferrari now had them producing the evolution of the V-6, the 3 litre V-8. It gets complicated, but Fiat cancelled the project deeming it wasn't profitable to have an expensive car in the line-up. Naturally with Enzo Ferrari having an early say in the project as he was building the motor from the ground-up, the car was then handed over to Ferrari (this was good timing for them, as they needed a replacement for their 246 GT, to compete against the new Porsche 911, Lamborghini Uracco and Maserati Merak, all high-performance 2+2's). The project went forth to the design stage, Fiat already had called in Bertone to design this new coupe but now with Enzo Ferrari's suggestions on interior design and layout.

The car was sold first with Dino badges as it was that, a Dino replacement. Sales at first were poor, that's why they then stuck Ferrari badges on them. In the six years this car was produced, over 2800 of them were made, which at THAT time, was the most Ferrari had made of any model.

I will eventually show pictures of my engine-rebuild here...

Beautiful car, Peter. And thank you for the history on the 308 GT4. As you and I share the same workshop manual and knowing your familiarity with the 308 series, I hope to ask your advice from time to time.

Peter,
I love the car! Ferrari's do look good in black.

I had originally thought about keeping my car for 5 years or so then trading it in for a TR. Of course now that I have my car I will probably keep it forever. I just recently got engaged and I was thinking about some day (way down the road) getting my (wife) a Mondial. But now that I think about it, if I got her a GT4 it would share the same parts as my GTS.

Thanks for all your posts, I enjoy reading them and like Barry I too would like to pick your brain from time to time.

Yes, you may buy all of the regular service parts in bulk and save $$$ And if you guys have kids, at least you have the little seats in the back of the GT4 for them. :green:
