I hope 2019 is not an extension of 2018, weather-wise. The first Katie's of 2019 was hampered by rain, but the loyal core group still showed up. On a positive note, it wasn't too cold, and it was not actively raining.
It's March, and I say it's time for better weather. It seems like we've had rain practically every weekend since the middle of last summer. Who do we contact to fix this?
Cold and misty today, but (as often on bad-weather Saturdays), German cars came out in numbers. Lots of BMWs, including a new BMW 8 Series.
We had snow last night, but the streets were dry when I left home, and the temperature as above freezing - 34F, in fact. This is what passes for good weather here, lately.
It seems like, when it's cold & wet & snowy, almost all the cars that show up to Katie's are German. No Ferraris there this morning, but I saw one heading for Katie's as I left, right around 8:00AM.
Sorry - my laptop gave up the ghost in late March, and I'm just catching up in mid-April! My friend Pete brought out his well-turned-out Sprite... Several Ferraris there, too!
A pretty good number of Ferraris there today. That last car is an oddity - a Lotus Omega. When it came out in 1990, one of the fastest 4-door cars in the world.
Twin-turbo inline-6, 377hp, ~180mph. A great 'sleeper'!
It rained through the night last night, but stopped 20 minutes before I left home to go to Katie's. As a result, Cars & Coffee got a late start, and was limited to not much more than a full front lot. No Ferraris today. Still, there were some nice vehicles there!
A pretty good turnout - and lots of interesting cars & people. Interesting note - that second-to-last picture shows a very nice Lamborghini Espada, about to pass by a brand-new Lamborghini Urus, its grandson...
What started out as an overcast Saturday morning turned into a pretty nice day at Katie's. A couple of really nice Ferraris there today, and a questionable one.
That truck has actually been to Katie's several times, in the last 2 or 3 years. It's a big hit. I think I heard from someone that this was originally one of the GM Futurama trucks. Below is this vehicle, another old Futurama truck, and what this reminds me of...
Thanks for that. I think all the Futurama busses are accounted for, so the one at Katie’s was likely born that way. A COE recently sold on BaT, nowhere near as nice as this one. I can’t imagine the garage you need to House one....
At Katie's today, a guy we know - ZR-1 driver Phil, collapsed inside Katie's. The Great Falls Emergency Squad (luckily, right across the street) came right over. Seems like a heart incident. He was conscious and coherent when he left - a good sign - and they took him to a local hospital. Two good things accompanied this frightening event -
1.) Fellow Corvette guys talked to Phil before he left, and volunteered to get his car home and safe. I know that took one of his worries away.
2.) I was VERY happy to see that no one was parked along the sides of the entrance road to Katie's from Georgetown Pike. People had been parking their cars on both sides of this road in recent weeks, and it makes it difficult to get traffic in & out. Thankfully, the ambulance and fire truck had a clear shot in to pick up Phil, and get him to the hospital.
Katie's update: Phil, who was taken away from Katie's in an ambulance on Saturday, is home and OK. He did yard work all day Friday, without drinking enough water.
His problem was being dehydrated, and he's taking care of that. He said he'd be back at Katie's soon.
A great turnout today. I just wish people had the sense to NOT park along Georgetown Pike, and along the entry road, next to the Post Office. A suggestion - if you can't get to Katie's before 7:00AM, don't bother coming until 8:30 or 9:00AM. You will likely find a decent parking space, for the 'second shift'. I am pretty much always gone before 8:30AM.
