SONOMA : Misc

Some of you know I have several projects I am invested within the Sonoma County area. I choose Sonoma, eggs all in one basket, approach as I know this area and trust its future better.

This thread will hopefully act as a guide/resource for Ferraristas and/or persons wanting to spend a little time in the areas. It may include links to Mendocino, Lake, Napa, and Marin from time to time as drives to those areas are delightful and within an easy day outting.

I may, link or expande to 'stuff' like picnic items, or a winery or two either before one stops, or as the final destination.

Feel free to offer any comments, questions and/or entries: no problems.

rik [PS: This is NOT intended to be a commercial or promotion of my business items/agenda. It is meant as a 'get familiar' since some of you don't live here and sometimes wonder: "what can I do...".

Sonoma Valley Business Park

We have noticed a need due to lack of such in the area and northward for small businesses to have a space to legally and easily produce their products and distribute easily to the general public in a higher end fashion. While mom's kitchen or Uncle's barn has appeal if certainly not economy, rarely does such location offer all the needs. Sonoma Valley Business Park [SVBP] is a new concept for the North Bay. It has been tried in smaller startups, but never seems to succeed due to funding, location or promotion.

http://www.pressdemocrat.com/article...-food-ventures#

The link provides two projects in Sonoma Valley that will give the mfgr/legal space needed to produce wine, beer, food products etc. and retail space in a setting that befits old Mission concepts. Our space is about 300,000Sq.Ft, while the other unrelated center is over 700,000sq. ft.

The influx of very well known foreign companies to imbed themselves into the CA/US lifestyle, is ever growing. Companies such as Gloria Ferrer, Cordinu, Mums, Taittinger, Chandon, to name just a few have put a 'notch' in the world map as a place to visit: we are lucky to be one of the destinations. Companies such as my family, who migrated from Tuscany in the late 1800 to start several tool, food imports, and production facilities in San Francisco, benefitted from the areas links to an area that mimicked many a homeland area. Italian Swiss, French, Spanish, Italian to name a few. Some family still operates a line of food items, which was in Sonoma, but not in Vallejo: Mezzetta Food Products.

The SVBP, will be a place to stop, watch the product being made if desired, gain more appreciation to sample and acquire on a regular basis, while comparing against similar/complimentary items in the same general area.

Sonoma Infineon

What could be better to enter the Sonoma/Napa area and see a truly wonderfully enhanced International Raceway. Infineon has struggled for many yeas, and seems to be finding its better nich with this current expansion.

Their home site link offers more up to date info, but don't miss it. You will need only to sign in as a means of liability waiver. Immediately you may see racers going speed on the final hairpin turn. Parking within feet of the gateway is a very interesting shop from pro-racing wear to vintage collections for sale. An left hand turn past the store and pits allows a steep climb to the truly awsome go cart track. On top of the world as you notice each corner seems to make you feel like you are driving off the edge of the world. The mountain top was flattened in such a way that you see distant bay, mountains and such and feel there is nothing in between: sort of like an endless pool.

Ferrari Challenge days run typically in May, but have been as early as April at times. This years even should have no fewer that several hundred vintage and brand new introductions: Not to be missed. Keep young one on a 'leash' as the cars move about everywhere and can be a bit, challenging.

Windsor Today

Windsor is quite the little town. About four years ago they entirely redid the ENTIRE town. Made it almost a Disneyland kind of place and really pulled it off. IF I were not in Sonoma, I'd move there.

Today, is the yearly Balloon festival start...Tom/sat and sun they will have about 20-30 balloons including some of the big advertisers and such with the ones you usually see in New Mexico.

Took some shots, and realized some were funny, like the last two.

Sonoma Infineon : INDY Race, 21-23 Aug 2009

Brother won two sets of tickets in a golf tourney few weeks ago to our local Infineon INDY race, which happened this last weekend. He gave them to me.

Wife and I would probalby not bother to attend, as we like to shush out of Sonoma/tourist mecca each weekend.

But, having never been to an Indi open wheel event, thought we would partake.

Upgraded the seats for $5 each = $20 for covered grandstand seating and good to go.

Spent some time on Sat. and a bit disap. but, that was qualifying. Won a free seat cushion and took a couple shots...see attached, including the owner of this nice Ferrari: he owns two [or at least of of the two] Older Ferrari F1 racers which put on a qual race, then finals on Sunday.

VERY NICE...there for all to touch and whatever.

Took some other 'odd ball' shots...enjoy: My new Mondial T cover worked GREAT. what a view from Infineon...can see about four Bay Area counties and a lot of the bay from there.

Need to bring F1 to Infineon: not great but much better to try ... that artsy gig, is a dance about a block from my house on the Sonoma Square..chance for great music and dancing in under the start...much fun.

PS: The left is Roy Rogers...google him.

Ok, that's it. I just put my house up for sale.

I am moving next door to you, Rik, so I can do all these things especially with the balloons!!!

BTW, how about sizing the photos so they are all similar and load faster.

Would you like software to do so?

looking at them today they seem to fit.

I've been using MS junk: HATE MS.....

Home toasting. The one I moved into, I built as an investor, with about a dozen more...sold them in the high 700's to just under a mill. THEN prices climbed for about 2-3 years where there was a $200K equity.

From this last year. some of the other investors, spread too thin, walked away from two of the homes. 1. sold for $770k, the other for $950K: TODAY, no joke they are on the market, first one already closed escrow, both listed at $535k

lucky for me I put no money down, and have nothing to be lost.....it was an investor deal to me from the others, like no commission, much lower price as I bought the last one to close out the project, but honestly,
been very tempted, IF THESE were better times, to pick up the remaining one.

I'd still wait, KNOW the house can be got for even less....sigh

should have kept the ranch..but different times.

not me: I can walk away from this with only paying what amounts to monthly rent.

Got my money up front on the projects...though, did get stiffed on over $100K on carrying a 2nd to a renter in Sacto when he bought the house three years ago...funny thing is, I worked with him to get it done and he waited dragging his heels for about a year longer increasing the price by $80k....I got all my money + out of it, and took a 2nd on the $80k + interest: he walked 3 years later. No big deal would have been nice to have, but honestly that was gravy money...now GREAT write off even if it will take eternity to get it through the IRS finally.

whatever, have bigger fish in lingering properties in the Sonoma area: Hurts, ya' sort of ...but it's only money.

You and me Greg know how South that can go..

currently looking for raw property in the no-tax areas...pulling ruts/roots and movin on....got a swell house, bale home I'm designing for over 10 years that will post soon under ART and STUFF...will have both Ferraris in a glass garage inside.....backdrop will be changing pics....you'll love it.
You know me, very much into alternative energy....

Ahhh : Spring has sprung

Driving the 456 to work this morning, I know Spring has finally sprung, when the hot air balloons are up, the vines are budding, and I have to throw water on the windshield to take off the morning frost.

One of five I drove by, the others didn't come out so well on my cell phone camera.

They were all landing, within 1/4 mile of each other. Time was about an hour ago.

Next weekend: Ferrari Challenge at Infineon. First to pick up my shipment at Gloria Ferrars then to the track.

Jacuzzi Winery: Car Show

Was digging about and remembered this car show, small, at one of our local wineries: Jacuzzi. YES, that Jacuzzi of hot tub fame, but they are more noted for many many other items to include a long history of wine making as in CLINE Cellars etc. right across the street from them.

Jacuzzi Family Vineyards

ANYWAY, we drove in to pick up some Olive Oil, and that is where our Olive Press moved to also, and they were having a 'galla' show. Some members saw our 456 and motioned us to park with them: THAT was great in there was no parking left bingo, another reason to have a Ferrari at one's fingertips.

LOVED the small Italista's

couple 3x8 models: Perhaps someone here ownes these.

Infineon Weekend

Complete Schedule | Schedule | Infineon Raceway

We are going to at least the Sunday finals of the 24 Hours of LeMons

Should be a hoot @$20. Especially since IIRC Alan put this deal together about 2009. The teams are just too funny...even if serious.
