Problem areas for rust on TR's

Hi All,

Have searched around a bit but have not found anything definitive on this area.

Was wondering what are the problem areas for the TR in terms of rust?
I have seen posts about the windscreen and sills being problems areas, but no to much follow up chat about these concerns.

What would be the areas to have a close look at when inspecting a TR to purchase.

Thanks

Andrew

They shot the undersides of TRs so full of Cosmoline that it is hard to imagine rust being a huge issue. I'm sure it has happened but I don't think it's a huge concern unless the TR lived near a (salty) body of water or the owner drove it in snow/rain...which isn't likely.

We are spoiled in California about rust. Yes they do rust in places where salt is used. I have even heard of the frames rusting out. Not being in those places I have no idea where the problem areas are. I just know we avoid cars from west of the Rockies like the plaque for just that reason.

I've owned the TR for 20+ years

Although I live in a inter coastal community (a river off the Chesapeake Bay)
I have not seen any rust on my car or at least three others in the area.
I think Ferrari did a rather good job rustproofing this model as compared to say a 308.

I know this post is quite old, but:

At least for the 512 TR, there is one area worth a check: the covers of the underbody.
Not at the rocker panels, but more towards the center of the car, about the position of the driver's seat. One of the metal sheets touches the frame here.
